Tropes appearing in "Goat"

  • And a Diet Coke: The "Ham-Egg-Edon" includes a dozen green eggs on top of toast on top of an extra-large ham on top of more toast, all folded into a giant egg... with a fruit salad on the side.
  • And Call Him "George": As a child, Snerz had a pet flemur which he near literally loved to death, swinging it in the air and hugging it until it couldn't breathe.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: The journalist interviewing Snerz has trouble getting him to comment on literally anything until she uses some choice words when asking about his childhood.
"So your childhood was... unremarkable, then?"
  • Balloon Belly: Gluntz gains one after failing a Mega Meal Challenge.
  • Berserk Button: Don't tell Snerz that anything about him is unremarkable. He will emphatically assert that the opposite is true.
  • Big Eater: Subverted. Gluntz orders a Mega Meal Challenge and even asks if it comes with a side dish, but her eyes end up being bigger than her stomach, as she doesn't even get halfway before giving up.
  • Break His Heart to Save Him: Not wanting her to get hurt but unable to tell her about The Goat, Guy has no choice but to lie to Michellee that they'd be better off separated from one another instead of traveling together, convincing Michellee that he just wants to be rid of them.
  • Bridal Carry: Sam jumps into Guy's arms when the Goat chews through the funicular's PA system. This turns into a Security Cling when the Goat cuts through the roof with his horns.
  • Call-Back: As Sam watches Mr. Jenkins fight The Goat, Guy sarcastically remarks "You should see what he does to a hotel room," alluding to the events of episode 2 and leading to Guy's "Eureka!" Moment.
  • Captain Obvious: Snerz describing his childhood.
"I wasn't always the man you see before you. I was once... little!"
  • Chekhov's Gun
    • Guy records some chickeraffe noises on his tape recorder invention, then puts it in the briefcase and gives it to The Goat to trick him into thinking he gave him Mr. Jenkins. And blow him up.
    • Guy remembers Mr. Jenkins' confused way of playing Go Fetch (by immitating the throwing rather than chasing after the thing that's been thrown) and tells him to play it with The Goat to get rid of him.
  • Cobwebs of Disuse: Mother Snerz's phone, emphasizing how her son never calls.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Gluntz refers to cantaloupe as "garbage fruit."
  • Dramatic Drop: McWinkle drops his coffee mug when he sees the wall filled with pictures of Sam on it.
  • "Eureka!" Moment
    • As Mr. Jenkins fights The Goat, Guy makes a remark about how he destroyed the hotel room. Then he remembers about what Mr. Jenkins did when he tried to play fetch with him, which helps Jenkins defeat The Goat.
    • In a parody of The Usual Suspects, McWinkle has a big, dramatic moment as he stares at the photos of Sam eating green eggs and ham on the diner wall and slowly puts the pieces together.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Averted. Snerz never forgave his mother for letting his pet flemur get away and as a result hasn't spoken to her since he was six years old, save a prank call on Mother's Day.
  • Fakin Macguffin: In order to get the Goat off of their backs, Guy gives the Goat a briefcase filled with a tape recorder which plays noises that Mr. Jenkins makes. When the Goat opens the briefcase and realizes he's been duped, the tape recorder explodes. It doesn't slow him down for long.
  • Fireball Eyeballs: The Goat gives Sam these when the two first make eye contact. The second time he does it, it causes his eyebrows to burst into flames.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: During his flashback, a chickeraffe poster can be seen on the wall in Snerz's bedroom, implying that, for all of the animals he's obsessed over, this has always been the one he's wanted the most.
  • Freudian Excuse: Snerz is obsessed with collecting rare animals as pets and keeps them under lock and chain because he never got over his pet flemur running away when he was a child. What's more is he's convinced that it was because his mother left the back door open by mistake when in fact she let the animal out voluntarily when she saw it trying to get away, and she simply never told him out of fear that it would break his heart to know that it was his fault.
  • Gratuitous Spanish: The Goat tends to use phrases like "amigo" and "compadré."
  • I Did What I Had to Do: Mother Snerz believes that it was better to turn her own son against her than disappoint him by telling him that his own pet, his only friend, ran away from him.
  • Mega Meal Challenge: Gluntz attempts one at a local diner called "The Ham-Egg-Edon." See And a Diet Coke above for the description of the monstrosity.
  • Men Don't Cry: Snerz sheds a tear while remembering his childhood, but sucks it back up into his eyeball when asked about the emotional impact it had, saying "Emotion is for losers!"
  • Oh, Crap!: Sam's reaction to finding out that The Goat has found them.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When Sam hears there's a goat outside, he's absolutely terrified. This is because the Goat is a rival animal poacher with an impeccable record, can easily outmatch him, and has been sent in to collect his quarry.
  • Pet the Dog: Normally surly, stoic McWinkle is still nice enough to tell Gluntz not to beat herself up over losing the targets when he sees how emotional it makes her.
  • [Popular Saying], But...: Courtesy of Snerz: "If you love something, tie it down!"
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: After The Goat is buried in an avalanche.
Sam: You think he made it?
Guy: I'm not sticking around to find out.
  • Security Cling: Sam and Guy do this when the Goat uses his horns to cut through the ceiling of the funicular.
  • Self-Serving Memory: Snerz remembers his flemur being his best, most loyal friend who loved playing with him, but as it turns out, the poor thing was always trying to get away from him due to his violent playing habits.
  • Shout-Out
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Subverted. The flashback to Snerz's childhood and especially the way he treated his poor pet flemur shows that he was always a Spoiled Brat. The fact that his mother never made him take responsibility for it meant he never learned from his mistake and, in fact, is the reason he's so much worse as an adult.
  • Villainous Breakdown: After getting duped by Sam and Guy, The Goat goes from a calculating badass to an angry, violent beast making guttural bellows.
