Tropes
- Baddie Flattery: Professor Pyg states that he's actually a fan of Gordon's. Gordon, naturally, isn't complimented.
- Hoist by His Own Petard: Grundy's opponents all use weaponry when fighting him (mostly chains and blunt, heavy weapons). Grundy finishes them with those same weapons.
- Humanoid Abomination: Lee notes that Grundy has no heartbeat and his blood has been replaced with swamp water.
- I Did What I Had to Do: Bullock agreed with Penguin's licensing the moment he set them up, because Bullock had so much debt he wanted to get rid of.
- It's All My Fault: Leslie blames herself for stopping Gordon in preventing the virus outbreak because she chose to infect herself and wanted her and Gordon to be together. And many people were hurt as a result.
- Knight Templar: Professor Pyg is killing corrupt cops in a twisted attempt to clean up Gotham, and doesn't care how many it takes.
- Not a Date: Penguin is annoyed that Zsasz calls his time with Sofia a "date".

- Obfuscating Disability: A shades-wearing street musician feigns blindness to avoid putting his neck on the line for witnessing a crime. Gordon isn't fooled.

- Leslie's other job is treating poor people.
- Bullock is a Dirty Cop, again.
- Sadistic Choice: Pyg slits Bullock's throat just enough to make it potentially life-threatening, then leaves Gordon with the choice of saving his life and letting Pyg escape, or catching Pyg and letting Bullock bleed out.
- Shout-Out: The title is a play on the classic film title Dog Day Afternoon.
- Threat Backfire: Riddler swears he'll do "something" to Leslie's clinic if she doesn't help him. Leslie just laughs.
- Too Much Information: Bullock doesn't want to hear how Wally dragged pig bodies and chopped them up.Bullock: Hey, shut up!
