While Gordon and Bullock search for Galavan, Bruce recruits Selina to uncover Strange's secrets. Meanwhile, Penguin returns to take his own revenge on Galavan.

  • Airvent Passageway: How Selina breaks into Arkham, and Nygma tries to escape.
  • Ancestral Weapon: The real version of the fake sword Strange gave Azrael appears this episode. It had been buried with Galavan's grandfather.
  • Ass Shove: Penguin jokes about sticking his umbrella somewhere other than Galavan's throat this time.
  • BFG: The bazooka that Butch uses to put a big hole in Azrael. Nothing short of that has worked.
  • Bad Guys Do the Dirty Work: Butch and Penguin show up in time in Wayne Manor to kill Galavan, saving Bruce.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Gordon shows up at Wayne Manor in time to save Bruce from Galavan.
  • The Bus Came Back: Firefly.
  • The Cameo: A man with reptilian features, the future Killer Croc, is briefly seen in Indian Hill.
  • Car Fu: Bruce rams Azrael with one of the cars in his garage. It only slows him down momentarily.
  • Continuity Nod: The whip Tabitha used a few times in the first half of the season returns, with Azrael taking it off of her and putting it to use later.
  • Costume Evolution: In the same vein as Mr. Freeze, Firefly gets a brand new suit that's much closer to her comic book counterpart's.
  • The Determinator: Absolutely nothing will stop Azrael in his mission...except Butch's rocket launcher.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": Firefly won't respond to Selina calling her "Bridget."
  • Enemy Mine: Penguin and Butch team up to kill Azrael since he's responsible for every tragedy they've suffered this season. Penguin is even willing to overlook Tabitha's role in his mother's death since she has been severely injured by Galavan.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Butch genuinely loves Tabitha. She, in turn, still cares about her brother, and finds out too late the feeling isn't mutual.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Nygma is a psychopathic murderer, and even he's horrified by the Indian Hill experiments. He also warns Selina to stay away from the basement and from Strange.
  • Everyone Has Standards: While Bullock has no problems breaking some laws, he draws the line at grave robbing. Gordon even lampshades this. Bullock counters it since they're searching a dead body.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Nygma could have successfully escaped from Arkham if he hadn't left the metal gate to the vents ajar, which started making noises that attracted the guards.
  • He's Back!: After an entire season of being humiliated and broken, Penguin rises up to the task to take down Galavan and reminds everyone why he's Gotham's premiere mob boss.
  • Idiot Ball: It's a minor one, but somehow Bruce and Alfred forget they have a secret (and rather sturdy looking) room hidden no one knows exists. This is particularly egregious in Alfred's case as he'd just been in there.
  • Logo Joke: Rather like the midseason one (not really), the Gotham logo at the end is glowing red hot.
  • Loss of Identity: Firefly doesn't remember anything before being brought to Arkham.
  • Ludicrous Gibs: Butch blows up Azrael with a bazooka.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": Everyone is suitably freaked out when Butch pulls out his bazooka.
  • Mythology Gag: Phantasm vanished in an explosion and (except for a single cameo) never again appeared anywhere in the DC Animated Universe. An explosion made Galavan "vanish", and now he definitely won't be coming back in the Gotham universe ever again.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: While not a "hero", Tabitha was trying to help Gordon by helping Theo remember himself. But this just makes him remember his goal of killing Bruce.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Selina's reaction when she finds Bridget...but she's not Bridget anymore...
    • After seeing that Butch has a rocket launcher, Bruce, Alfred and Gordon haul themselves out the line of fire posthaste.
    • On a lighter note, Bullock briefly gets this look when it hits home that he's stuck as acting Captain following Barnes's injuries. He rallies pretty quickly, though.
  • Prepare to Die: Galavan to Bruce, before Gordon shows up just in the nick of time.
  • Rousing Speech: Harvey gives one to the GCPD about finding Azrael.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: When Nygma discovers what's going on in the basement, he wants to get as far away from Arkham as possible.
  • See You in Hell: Penguin to Galavan, just before Butch blows him up.
  • Swiss-Cheese Security: Lampshaded by Butch, when Gordon and Bullock just walk right into his headquarters.
"Seriously, how do people keep getting in here? Do I have no security at all?!"
  • Sword Fight: Alfred fights off Azrael with an antique sabre when he breaks into Wayne Manor.
  • There Is No Kill Like Over Kill: Penguin and Butch use a freaking rocket launcher to take out Azrael.
  • Villainous Rescue: Penguin and Butch show up just in time to save Gordon, Bruce, and Alfred from Azrael.
  • You Are in Command Now: With Barnes in the hospital, Harvey is the highest ranking cop. He takes up the challenge surprisingly well.
