Directed by Rob Bailey

Written by John Stephens, Meghan Mostyn Brown

The Order of Saint-Dumas begins killing people across Gotham for a ritual. Bruce attempts to manipulate Silver to find out what Galavan knows about his parents' murder, and is kidnapped with Silver and interrogated for what they know about the Wayne deaths, but it turns out to be a massive Batman Gambit pulled off by Bruce and Selina. Galavan's charges get dismissed and he orders Gordon killed and prepares to kill Bruce.

  • Battle Butler: Alfred is able to go toe-to-toe with Tabitha, and only starts to lose when she pulls out a second blade.
  • Batman Gambit: The Trope Namer pulls off his first successful one by getting the name of the alleged Wayne killer out of Silver, although he had a lot of help from Selina.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Silver acts the innocent girl when she thinks Bruce is being tortured but when Tom threatens her, she drops the act to snap how her uncle will kill him if she doesn't let her go. Too bad Bruce is listening, silencing any doubts he had about her true persona.
  • Born Lucky: Barnes accuses Gordon of this after the case he was ordered not to follow turns out to be connected to the one he was.
Barnes: Does the universe normally like you this much, Detective?
  • Born Unlucky: Gordon disagrees however, thinking this of himself.
    Gordon: First time.
  • Cliffhanger: Galavan is prepared to kill Bruce, Alfred is bleeding out in the back of a garbage truck, and Gordon is being beaten by a driven-mad-by-grief Penguin.
  • Down the Drain: Gordon figures out the monks are using the sewer system to travel unnoticed around the city and stumbles upon their sacrificial chamber while looking for evidence.
  • Evil Gloating: Galavan, following his release, reveals the core of his plan (and identity as a lost Dumas) to a captive Gordon.
  • Fingore: Tom the Knife threatens to cut off Bruce and Silver's fingers unless they talk. He almost starts cutting off Silver's fingers before she gives up Malone. Selina remarks that if she was doing it, Silver would have lost some fingers.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Bruce demonstrates this when he dismisses Silver's pleas that Galavan will punish her for being fooled and essentially informs her that's her problem.
  • Guile Hero: Well hello there, future Batman. Bruce and Selina pull a massively successful con on Silver.
  • I Have A Bad Feeling About This: Gordon expresses this sentiment when Galavan seems far too calm before his impending trial.
  • Hidden Badass: Galavan finally reveals himself to be a very capable fighter.
  • Human Sacrifice: The Order of Saint-Dumas is killing people as part of their "cleansing ritual".
  • I Fight for the Strongest Side!: Galavan says that this is why his corrupt cops are working for him.
  • Internal Reveal: Gordon finds out Galavan's motives and that he's planning on killing Bruce Wayne.
  • It Always Rains at Funerals: It's raining cats and dogs at the funeral for Officer Parks.
  • It Only Works Once: When Tabitha encounters Alfred looking for Bruce in Theo's penthouse, she uses her whip to knock Alfred's gun out of his hand. When Alfred has his back turned and is about to leave, Tabitha uses her whip again but this time Alfred unsurprisingly catches it with one hand.
  • Large Ham: Tommy Flanagan lays it on thick as Tom the Knife...even by Gotham City standards. Justified in that he was acting up being this thug as part of the big con on Silver.

  • Metaphorically True: Selina advises Bruce that the best way to lie is to tell the truth. He later uses this tactic on Silver by honestly telling her his fear that the Wayne Enterprises executives will eventually try and kill him for investigating them to make it appear he believes she cares for him, which turns out to be a setup for his successful Batman Gambit.
    • Bruce also makes Silver believe her Honey Trap has worked by sweet-talking her, telling her that he feels a deep connection with her. Then it turns out that he actually feels that way about Selina, and was just projecting onto Silver for the sake of the plan.

  • Mythology Gag: Silver gives up the name of the Wayne killer as "M. Malone". "Matches Malone" in most continuities is a false identity taken on by Batman to infiltrate Gotham's organized crime. This is the first version of the character to have been involved in the Waynes' killing, though.
  • No-Sell: Gordon stabs one of the monks in the gut but the man simply smiles and pulls the knife out before running away.
  • Self-Harm: The body of one of the monks shows multiple self-mortification scars.
  • Ship Tease: Bruce and Selina's last scene together this episode has him all but saying he's in love with her.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: Selina pulls this on Bruce, although this time he at least sees where she vanished.
  • Stunned Silence: When Bruce tells Selina what he told Silver and makes it clear that's what he really feels about Selina, for once she isn't ready with a snappy comeback or sarcastic remark.
    • Also, Silver's reaction when she realizes Bruce and Selina so expertly played her.
  • The Thing That Would Not Leave: Cobblepot has apparently become something of a nuisance guest at Nygma's place.
  • Villain Ball: Galavan proves once again how overconfident he is. When he has Gordon tied up, instead of killing him on the spot, he instead has him released for some hand-to-hand combat and wins but keeps him alive. And then he tells the corrupt cops to kill Gordon slowly, and then leaves without seeing Gordon die, which gives enough time for Penguin and Gabe to find Gordon and kill the cops.
    • On top of that, Galavan also couldn't restrain himself from monologuing, thus feeding Gordon with additional pieces of the puzzle.
  • Villainous Rescue: Penguin shows up just in time to save Gordon from Galavan's corrupt cops.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Bruce's hired thugs pretend to have tortured him to convince Silver she's next so she'll give up the name.
  • You Have Failed Me: Silver is terrified her uncle will have her killed for giving up the name.
