Recap / Goosebumps (1995) S3E13/E14 "Werewolf Skin"

Go To

Based on Werewolf Skin, book #60 of the original Goosebumps series.

Alex Blackwell visits his aunt and uncle, only to discover the town is home to werewolves.

The episode provides examples of:

  • Adaptation Name Change: Alex and his aunt and uncle's last names are all changed from Hunter to Blackwell in the episode.
  • Defeat Equals Explosion: The titular skins explode in a massive fireball after Alex succesfully keeps Marta and Colin away from them long enough to break the curse.
  • Gender Flip: The bus driver who brings Alex to Wolf Creek is a man in the book, but is a woman in the episode.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • While Alex is waiting for his aunt and uncle at the bus station, the driver who brought him there passes the time by telling him how she heard about a boy who lost his head and now haunts his house trying to find it.
    • The bus driver's name is Edna, which was also the name of one of the characters in the aforementioned book (who herself turned out to be a ghost). Edna was omitted from the TV adaptation of that episode.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Hannah is given the last name of Stoneman in the episode.
  • Race Lift: Arjun and Sean's races are swapped, so the former is white and the latter is Indian.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Sean always talks first, usually followed by Arjun just repeating the last word or two that he said. As Alex points out, this makes the pair reminiscent of Beavis and Butt-Head.
    • Big Edna, the bus driver, might also be an allusion to Large Marge, due to having very similar mannerisms.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: The book version ends with Alex's friend Hannah revealing she is a werewolf, then pouncing and sinking her teeth into him. The episode still ends with Hannah revealing she is a werewolf, but this time she tells Alex she doesn't bite.
