Recap / Goosebumps (1995) S2E13 "Let's Get Invisible!"

Go To

Based on Let's Get Invisible!, book #6 of the original Goosebumps series.

When Max and his friends discover a strange mirror in the attic, they soon find it can make them invisible — and that their reflections want to take their places.

The episode provides examples of:

  • Adapted Out: April is left out of by way of Composite Character with Erin, while the Thompson family dog Whitey, their grandparents and their neighbors the Evanders are all simply absent.
  • Bed Sheet Ghost: After becoming invisible, Noah covers himself in a sheet to tease his brother.
  • Composite Character: April is adapted out, with some of her physical characteristics and personality given to Erin instead.
  • The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You: At the end of the episode, Max notices that Noah threw his father his cup right-handed, even though he's supposed to be left-handed. Max asks him about this, but the (fake) Noah ignores him, instead staring directly at the camera and giving off a Psychotic Smirk.
  • Gilligan Cut: When planning on showing Zack the mirror in the attic, Max tells him he is about to see "the coolest thing in the entire universe." Zack responds with a scoff. But then it cuts to him in the attic, staring wide-eyed at an invisible Max playing catch with a baseball, saying it's the coolest thing in the entire universe.
  • Match Cut: After Max uses the mirror to become invisible and back again, he, his brother, and his friends leave the attic. It then cuts to the mirror with rippling effects on its surface. Cut to Max in the bathroom, gargling mouthwash, with a similar rippling view.
  • Race Lift: Erin in the book is Caucasian with blonde hair. Here, she's Chinese and black-haired.
  • "Ray of Hope" Ending: Lefty is swapped with his mirror counterpart but the mirror itself is repaired so there's a chance that he'll be rescued one day.
