Recap / Golgo 13 Ep 39 The Best Day Of Ashs Life

Go To

Street bum Ash digs through the garbage bright and early each morning, searching for anything he can use in the creation of his strange junk sculptures. While most of the other tenants in his building have accepted their sad lot in life Ash continues to dream big and still hopes to catch the eyes of a famous art dealer that is willing to pay for his "art" and get him out of this miserable life for good. Instead he catches the eye of Golgo 13... normally a sign that something bad would probably happen soon... but could the professional assassin perhaps have a different fate in mind for him...?

  • Cranky Landlord: Ash is constantly being confronted by his very annoyed landlord who loudly demands he pay his overdue rent and thinks he'll never amount to anything. When he finds Ash's buddy in a new suit telling him about how Ash sold off all his sculptures and has all the rent he owned in cash the guy is left stupefied.
  • Kids Are Cruel: At one point Ash is harassed by some young punks while out collecting trash for his art sculptures. It's used to show how little respect he gets and how much his current life sucks.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Ash is just a penniless bum who makes junk sculptures in his spare time but thinks of himself as an extremely talented artist. In the end he only got his big payday because Golgo needed him out of the building he was living in and was willing to buy off all of his art as a means to evict him.
  • Smoke Out: While Golgo 13 is hired to take out a rival mobster, he arranges to have Ash's old apartment home building detonated so Golgo can take the shot before the dust obstructs the view of the mobster's henchmen and their allies.
  • Starving Artist: Ash is a poor artist living in a New York slum with dreams of making it big and getting discovered by a rich art patron, something even his own friends mock him for. In the end he does get discovered, but by Golgo 13, not an art critic like he hoped. Luckily, the famous hitman needed the building he was living in for a job so he buys up all of his sculptures and makes him rich.
  • Rags to Riches: Ash is a poor New York artist who struggles to even pay his rent at the beginning of the story but by the end he's chilling in Florida with a ton of cash, new clothes and a few lady friends fawning over him like he's a celebrity.
