The answer to all Glee's problems is these two singing Sara Bareilles.

Friendships quickly dissolve in both Lima and New York, with some devastating repercussions. At McKinley, Artie and Tina are forced to square off against each other for the honor of being the valedictorian of the graduating class, while in New York, Santana successfully auditions for the role of Rachel's understudy in Funny Girl, and Rachel is incensed.

Next Time: The Power of Three. And not a triquetra in sight.

Tropes

  • Call-Back: Santana's performance of "Don't Rain On My Parade" is a callback to Rachel's performance in Season One's Sectionals, including entering from the rear of the auditorium. Rachel mentions the duet they performed towards the end of Season 3, as well.
  • Death Glare: Santana is on the end of one thanks to "stealing" Rachel's trademark song.
  • I Ate WHAT?!: Referenced by Sue, who threatens that if Tina and Artie cop out on their competition, everything they drink in the future will have a little of her pee in it.
  • Inelegant Blubbering: Figgins indulges in some during the pre-valedictory speeches.
Sue: What a treacly, stomach-turning waste of everybody's time. I hate you both.
  • Meaningful Echo: Santana tells Rachel "you're exactly where you're supposed to be" (i.e. in the spotlight), unknowingly repeating the words that Shelby told Quinn in "Hold Onto Sixteen".
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: After her Yeast-I-Stat commercial, Santana is known everywhere as "the girl with the raging yeast infection."
    • Tina will always be known as "the hag who Vapo-Raped Blaine."
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Santana needs her diner job, which is why she doesn't go all "Lima Heights Adjacent" on the customers, including the ones who send back their toast.
  • Pimped-Out Dress: The models at the shoot, including Santana, each get one. Rachel naturally gets to wear the Funny Girl costume, channeling her best Babs.
