...does it almost feel like nothing's changed at all?...

An eccentric TV writer (Kristen Schaal) shadows Rachel and company to develop a script for Rachel's new show, but the initial result does not turn out promisingly. Sam and Mercedes hit a crossroads in their relationship when they realize that their commitment to each other may be too much to handle in the midst of diverging career paths. Blaine performs with June at her showcase, then mends fences with Kurt by asking him to sing a duet as an encore.

Next Season: The swan song, the final curtain, the final season of Glee. We've got cameos, returns, the return of the reason the show has its name, plus many changes, both physical and otherwise. All that, plus a wedding years in the making, all culminating in the most Grand Finale. Till then Gleeks.

Songs:

  • "Shakin' My Head", Glee original, performed by Mercedes with Brittany
  • "All of Me" by John Legend, performed by Blaine
  • "Girls on Film" by Duran Duran, performed by Sam with Charlie Darling
  • "Glitter in the Air" by P!nk, performed by Rachel
  • "No Time at All" from Pippin, performed by Blaine and June Dolloway
  • "American Boy" by Estelle feat. Kanye West, performed by Blaine and Kurt
  • "Pompeii" by Bastille, performed by Rachel, Kurt, Sam, Artie, Mercedes, Brittany, and Blaine

Tropes:

  • The Cameo: Heather Morris as Brittany Pierce.
  • Put on a Bus: Amber Riley makes her second escape from the madness; she'd appear in six episodes of the final season, including the Grand Finale. She's joined by Kevin McHale, who'd also appear in six episodes of the final season, including the Grand Finale. Thus, going into the final season, only Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Matthew Morrison, and Jane Lynch remained from the pilot to now.
  • Shaking the Rump: Mercedes does this during the "Pompeii" number.
  • What Could Have Been: Naya Rivera had scenes and recorded songs, but all were cut for unknown reasons.
