Season 7, episode 9

Knit, People, Knit!

Emily and Richard learned about Lorelai's marriage from their answering machine and insist on throwing her a wedding party. Rory moves back in with Paris. Lorelai can knit and is practising for the knit-a-thon to raise money to rebuild a bridge. Liz wants to give birth at home.

Marty is still acting weird toward Rory. Anna informs April she's going to move to New Mexico to be closer to her mother. April is very upset about it. Anna gets angry when she learns that Luke suggested April stay with him. Christopher struggles to fit in and overdoes it by not grasping the whole community thing they have going.

Lucy wears a tiara to her birthday party. Rory talks to Marty and he agrees to treat her normally. Luke tells Anna that her daughter isn't just her daughter.

Tropes

  • Angrish: April has moodswings about moving to New Mexico and occasionally loses her ability to form sentences.
  • Captain Obvious: Lorelai starts moving furniture around in the missle of the night and wonders why Chris woke up. He explains it to her.
  • Continuity Snarl: When Anna wanted to go live with her sick mother for a while, she was in Arizona. Now that she wants to move so she can be closer to her, it's New Mexico. Let's be fair, though: New Mexico is much closer to Arizona than Connecticut.
  • Decade-Themed Party: Or to be precise, a year-themed party. Lucy's 21st birthday is celebrated with a 2002-themed party. The episode is set in late 2006.
  • Drama Queen: April has a bout of this when the topic of moving comes up.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: T.J. thought "Doula" was this for Liz's birth coach, but found out the hard way that she prefers "Sandy".
  • Fee Fi Faux Pas: Christopher breaks the knit-a-thon social ritual by donating all the money.
  • Hypocrite: Marcy's five kids were born in a hospital, but she sells Liz on homebirth anyway.
  • Jerkass:
    • Marty is one to Rory.
    • Anna is kind of one in general, telling Luke he can't make promises to her daughter and acting like she's to only one of them who has a kid. In this episode, Luke calls her on it.
  • Shout-Out
    • Lorelai wanted to marry Tip O'Neill when she grew up because she liked the name Tip.
    • Emily and Richard give Lorelai and Chris and a painting by Kiki Smith for a wedding gift. It's titled Wolf Girl.
    • Rory owns two copies of the Norton Anthology of English Literature.
    • Chris calls Lorelai Madame Defarge.
    • The Beatles find wood uninteresting, unlike the beetles eating the Old Muddy River bridge.
    • Babette once went as Bride of Chucky on Halloween. Morey went as a futuristic pirate.
    • Rory and Lucy both bring their JLo-inspired uggs in the name of 2002.
    • Luke suggests trying to read A Brief History Of Time again.
    • Paris thinks 2001: A Space Odyssey is a better theme than 2002.
    • Christopher gives Lorelai Joaquin Phoenix at the Oscars flashbacks.
    • Lucy's birthday party has P!nk's Get the Party Started.
    • Lorelai points out that having an outdoor event in November was a Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers move.
    • India.Arie's Video is played at Lucy's party.
    • Marty Schwarzenegger has been working out.
