  • Story Arc: Avalon Mystic Tour
  • Characters: Goliath, Elisa, Angela, Bronx, Beth, Peter Maza, and Coyote the Trickster
  • Enemy(ies): Xanatos and Coyote 4.0

The world tourists arrive in Flagstaff, Arizona, where they meet Elisa's father and younger sister, as well as another child of Oberon, the trickster Coyote.

Xanatos returns in "The Gathering".

  • Agent Scully: Peter Maza, after seeing giant robots, mutates, and gargoyles, he can't find it in himself to believe the existence of Coyote (Third Race).
  • Body Double: Peter impersonates as Coyote (Third Race) to trick Xanatos into letting the real one out.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Carlos Maza was right about the Kachinas being real and the traditions of the Hopi being more than superstition. However, he also disapproved of Peter going to live in New York City among non-Natives, and if Peter had listened to that advice, he wouldn't have met Diane and Elisa would never have been born.
  • Call-Back: Xanatos had used the Cauldron of Life from "The Price" to make his new Coyote robot to capture the Third Race Coyote.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Xanatos sarcastically invokes his "first real stab at cliched villainy" when he attempts to have Goliath and Angela melted by acid on the Coyote carving. Though it is subverted in that his real goal is to get Coyote the Trickster out of hiding in the hopes of extorting a way to achieve immortality out of him.
  • Continuity Nod: Peter and Beth had been informed about the gargoyles by Diane after the events of "Mark of the Panther."
  • Crying Indian: Peter's father cries when his son leaves for New York, rejecting his legacy.
  • Ironic Echo: Coyote says a line that Peter once said to his father which visibly shook him.
    (Past)
Peter: Pop, it's 1960. Not 1860. You're living in the past, I'm planning for the future.
    (Present Day)
Coyote (Third Race): Hey Pops, it's 1996. Not 1896. Get with the program; Xanatos is bringing real jobs to the tribe and real money. If you close down his operation, you're living in the past. Me, I'm planning for the future.
  • I Shall Taunt You: Coyote (Third Race) uses this to lead Coyote (robot) to his doom.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While Coyote's words are meant to show how much Peter was a jerk to his father and why he was wrong for rejecting him, Xanatos would be bringing jobs and income to the Tribal Lands, which would be a boon for those living there. The other Native American episode of the World Tour arc, "Heritage," had the natives leaving their homes because they couldn't support their families where their ancestral homes were, so lack of resources and opportunities is a real problem that people have to face.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Xanatos lampshades how cliche his death trap is to Goliath and Angela.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Largely unseen since the Avalon World Tour started, Xanatos greets Goliath with, "Long time no see."
  • Loophole Abuse: After Beth and Peter Maza were detained for unwittingly trespassing onto the construction site, Elisa suggests going back. Her father is opposed to knowingly breaking the law, however she notes that gargoyles don't "legally exist" and thus theoretically can't be stopped.
  • Nothing Personal: Xanatos informs Goliath and Angela that his latest scheme hold no malice towards them. Although by the end of the episode, he does admit that their constant efforts to foil him do get tiresome and annoying.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted in regards to the name Coyote. Xanatos pits Coyote 4.0 against Coyote the mythical American Indian trickster. The latter threatens to sue for trademark infringement to which Xanatos retorts he should "Consider it a tribute."
  • Parental Issues: Peter had an intense fight with his father, causing a very strained relationship. However, Peter finally reconciles with him at his grave.
  • Reverse Psychology: Coyote (Third Race) goads the Mazas, particularly Peter, into taking action against Xanatos. Elisa even points out to her father about how obvious it was.
  • Running Gag: Coyote 4.0 "dies" this time by the collapse of the scaffolding at the construction site which he fired upon attempting to hit Coyote the Trickster. This makes the fourth time (out of four total appearances) that he's been destroyed.
