Amber and Logan introduce the concept of the show, before the twenty four contestants of the competition arrive, where they are soon divided into two teams of twelve.

Tropes that apply to this episode include:

  • Amusing Injuries: Throughout the episode, Brick is constantly injured in one way or another for a variety of reasons. However, due to his obnoxious personality and rude behavior, it is constantly played for laughs as a type of karma.
  • Characterization Marches On: Several characters are at first introduced with some kind of a gimmick in order to help them stand out(most notably Brooke, Juvia, and Nedrick). However, as the story went on, these gimmick-traits slowly became more subdued in their presence, with the characters instead beginning to show out their actual personalities more.
  • Establishing Character Moment: All twenty four contestants are given quite the entrance upon their arrivals.
  • Everyone Meets Everyone: Aside from the two hosts and Chef Tyson, none of the characters introduced in this episode had ever met each other before the show.
  • Jerkass: Several contestants, including Ace, Brick, Doc, and Sage, act horribly towards the others during the episode, acting as a minor antagonistic force in a mostly calm episode.
  • Not What I Signed Up For: Multiple players state that they did not sign up to basically spend a couple months at a grungy old summer camp after they were promised a stay at a five-star hotel.
  • Ship Tease: Kanaya is quick to ship Chad and Cynthia, who would go on to be one of the main couples of the season.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Benson, Brick, and Sage all have rather short names, but all the same still look up to themselves as if they're much better than they really are.
  • Summer Campy: The series is revealed to be taking place at a summer camp.
  • Very False Advertising: The contestants were promised that they would be staying at a five-star hotel and be treated basically like kings/queens during their stay. They are less than pleased to find out they'll actually be staying at a dirty campground on an abandoned island.
  • Welcome Episode: The episode's main focus was to introduce readers to the contestants and the premise of the series.
