Tropes present in this episode include:

  • Bad Guys Do the Dirty Work: Captain Buccaneer lampshades how the Mannequin Soldiers are practically doing most of the work in taking out Central's forces for them.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Izumi and Sig Curtis arrive just in time to save the Armstrong siblings from Sloth, with Alex and Sig teaming up to defeat Sloth.
  • The Bus Came Back: The episode ends with Führer Bradley's voice echoing over the loudspeakers to announce his return and the Briggs' Soldiers looking out the window to see him approaching Central Command.
  • Character Death: Sloth meets his end in this episode after finally exhausting his regenerative power.
  • Eyecatch: Olivier and Alex in the first, Karley in the second.
  • Flat Character: Invoked and acknowledged in-story by Hohenheim during his and Father's reunion. He comments on how Father's become this in the centuries since Xerxes. We also get flashbacks to "Episode 40" showing how much more vibrant and alive the Dwarf in the Flask was and how emotionless, cold, and sterile he's become in the interim (and since extracting his Sins).
  • Foreshadowing: While Alphonse, Yoki, Heinkel and Dr. Marcoh try to get the car moving, we see a mysterious, faceless man in the background walk by whilst carrying a sword. It's later revealed that the man in question was King Bradley, alive and prepared to take back his throne.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Honhenheim initially tries to avoid attacking Father. He tries to reason with him, appealing to their old friendship and the memory of what the Dwarf in the Flash used to be like before he went down this path of darkness. It doesn't work, but points for trying.
  • I Lied: A variant, since the person in question doesn't say this, but Edison comes to the conclusion that Father lied about the Mannequin Soldiers being obedient to the Senior Staff when they start to corner him.
  • Mood Whiplash: Just as all the Briggs' Soldiers rejoice in their capture of the capitol, King Bradley is heard proclaiming his return and his intent to retake Central from the traitors.
  • No Name Given: The member of the Senior Staff that attempted to take command from the Führer's office gets killed by the Mannequin Soldiers without his name ever being revealed.
  • Oh, Crap!: Bradley's announcement is met with universal dread and terror from the Soldiers of Briggs.
  • Save the Villain: Izumi saves General Edison, a member of the Senior Staff, from the Mannequin Soldiers, though only so she can interrogate him about the "Good Gentleman", aka Father.
  • Tempting Fate: The Briggs' Soldiers celebrate their victory in capturing the capitol, just in time for...
King Bradley: (Through loudspeakers) Greetings, I'm back!
  • Too Dumb to Live: The aforementioned member of the Senior Staff, even if he had no way of knowing that the Mannequin Soldiers were coming, decides to take command in the Führer's office while failing to realize that doing so would make him an easy target for the enemy. Olivier even outright refuses to set up operations there for that reason.
