Tropes

  • Babysitting Episode: One of the subplots is Ramona's first stab at babysitting. It quickly apparent that she doesn't know the first thing.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Kimmy Gibbler photoshops DJ's bust on her dating profile picture...with Channing Tatum 's butt cheeks.
That's why they look so squeezable.
    • The episode also pokes fun at dishonest dating profiles in general.
  • Brick Joke: Houseboat.
  • Dreadful Musician: Max. Justified, in this case, as he's playing the trombone, which is a very difficult instrument, and he's only in the second grade.
  • Effortless Amazonian Lift : Kimmy used to guess people's weight at a carnival by lifting them up. For fun.
  • Fun with Flushing: Ramona flushes a diaper down the toilet and clogs it, unaware that's not how to dispose of diapers.
  • Generation Xerox: Lampshaded by DJ.
I can't help it, I'm turning into Dad.
  • Hypno Fool: Kimmy clucks like a chicken when you say "houseboat." The word "boxcar" snaps her out of it.
  • Imagine the Audience Naked: Discussed. Jackson gives this advice to Max.
  • Law of Inverse Fertility: Stephanie can't have kids.
  • Magic Feather: Stephanie promises to lend Max her "lucky scarf."
  • A Man Is Always Eager: When DJ's date accidentally assumes DJ just wants to have quick sex in the bathroom and nothing more, he is more than willing to comply, even though they only met five minutes earlier.
  • Mood Whiplash: The episode goes from gags about Max's trombone playing to Stephanie's tearful admission that she's infertile.
  • One Dialogue, Two Conversations: When DJ's surprise date arrives, she thinks he's a plumber and their talk about how things should go that night is just hysterical.
  • Pun: Stephanie tells Max he's not going to "quack under the pressure."
  • Status Quo Is God: Stephanie is tempted to return to Hard-Drinking Party Girl ways, but in the end, she realizes she's now happier living with DJ, Kimmy, and their kids.
