Recap / Fuller House S 1 E 1 Our Very First Show Again

Go To

The whole Tanner-Katsopolis-Gladstone family is back, with some new additions. DJ, now a widowed veterinarian with three sons, has spent the last year living in Danny's San Francisco home. When everyone is set to go their separate ways, DJ lets it slip that maybe she's not Wonder Woman and needs a little help.

Tropes

  • Big Eater: Steve, of course. DJ is cleaning out the fridge and gives a huge stack of containers to him. He's also too worried to eat when Comet Jr, Jr. goes into labour.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: The entire cast stops and looks at the camera when Danny mentions Michelle's fashion empire in New York.
  • Call-Back: Many, in the pilot. Stephanie rips the curtains.
Say you're sorry. And I love you. And hug it out.
  • Catchphrase: As noted on the main page, the show's dialogue practically runs on these.
  • Cool Aunt: Stephanie, aka the globe-trotting "DJ Tanner."
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: The only episode to feature all characters in the intro.
  • Fake Brit: In-universe, because Stephanie has been in London, she's using a fake British accent.
  • Fanservice: Stephanie's evening outfit is, uh, eye-popping.
To DJ's infant son: I know these look like lunch, but this Dairy Queen's closed.
  • First Pet Story: Max convinces DJ he should have one of Comet Jr. Jr.'s puppies.
  • Generation Xerox: A widowed single parent enlists the help of her best friend and sibling, to raise three children.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Joey teasing Jesse about his "childish" Elvis obsession... while he's wearing Bugs Bunny pajamas and doing his Bullwinkle imitation.
  • Lost Wedding Ring: DJ mentions that she has to get to work and treat a dog who swallowed a wedding ring.
DJ: That's what you get for making a beagle your best man.
  • Manchild: Joey is over 50 and still wears Bugs Bunny pajamas.
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: Also in-universe. Stephanie swaps her British accent for her natural Californian accent after Kimmy shows up.
  • Shout-Out: To:
  • Split Screen: Also a Call-Back to the pilot, when the gang all sings The Flintstones theme.
  • Take That!: To Donald Trump. The show really hates Donald Trump.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Kimmy references her Friendless Background. DJ was the only one who stood by her.
  • Who's on First?: The DJ Tanner conversation.
