Recap / Full House S 5 E 11 Bachelor Of The Month

Go To

"Bachelor of the Month" is an episode in the fifth season of Full House.

After Danny is named the "Bay Area Bachelor of the Month" in a magazine, he wholeheartedly embraces his newfound popularity and goes on dates with women who flock to him after the publication. When Vicky expresses her reaction in an unimpressed tone, Danny proposes for the two of them to go on a date so she can see for herself what he's like in real life, to which Vicky agrees. D.J. and Stephanie take up the role of reading bedtime stories to Michelle in Danny's absence, but Michelle finds herself preferring for Danny to do it instead and isn't happy with Danny being suddenly away on so many dates, culminating in her stowing away, with Teddy in tow, to the restaurant where Danny and Vicky dine out.

In the meantime, Jesse and Rebecca find themselves overwhelmed with the sheer amount of responsibilities they are saddled with in taking care of Nicky and Alex, prompting Joey to take over on the same night Danny is dining out with Vicky to give Jesse and Rebecca a chance to relax and take a break from their usual duties.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Brick Joke:
    • Upon arriving at the restaurant, Danny hands some money to the waiter at the entrance with a request for him to seat him and Vicky at a booth, only for said waiter to seat them at a table with chairs instead. Then Michelle and Teddy step inside the restaurant and seat themselves to a vacant booth, unnoticed by Danny, Vicky, and the waitstaff alike the whole time. After Michelle manages to get attention from Danny (with help from Vicky since Michelle calls him in front of Vicky and Danny has his back to Michelle), Danny makes a comment to Vicky about the seating "arrangement" Michelle and Teddy have.
Danny: (to Vicky) I wonder how much they paid the waiter for the booth.
    • D.J. imitates a steam-train tooting sound at one point when reading a bedtime story to Michelle, only for Michelle to criticize D.J. for not doing it like the way Danny does. As Danny, Vicky, and Michelle enter the Tanner house toward the end of the episode, Danny makes the sound of steam-train tooting, which earns him a compliment from Michelle as a result.
Michelle: (to Vicky) He still got it.
  • The Diaper Change: Part of Joey's substitute caretaker episode involves him trying to change diapers, with himself quipping that whomever he's changing the diaper for should be renamed "Poopeye".
  • Exact Words: As Joey does his best to take care of Nicky and Alex, he mutters that at least Jesse and Rebecca are enjoying their time alone and away from all the responsibilities of taking care of the boys. He's technically right: Jesse and Rebecca are away from the responsibilities Joey is taking over at the moment, but they're asleep due to being sleep-deprived from doing said childcare duties.
  • Good-Times Montage: A short montage of Danny going on many dates with different women and enjoying the experiences takes place during the episode, all while "Sharp-Dressed Man" by ZZ Top plays throughout said montage.
  • Jump Scare: Played for Laughs when Rebecca, standing behind Jesse, speaks up while he's lost in thoughts about the womenfolk he used to date before meeting Rebecca.
  • Look Behind You: Played with. As Michelle calls out to Danny from behind him while he and Vicky are dining, Vicky brings the fact that a girl is calling out to him, never having met Michelle before. Danny, in an attempt to prove himself chivalrous, keeps resisting the urge to look behind him, until Vicky presses him to look behind, and it's only after he turns around that he realizes the girl in question is Michelle instead of a random stranger like he presumes her to be.
  • Malaproper:
    • Michelle remembers wrongly about Danny's "Bachelor of the Month" status and claims it as "Spatula of the Month" when she relays to Teddy about Danny's many late-night absences.
Michelle: My daddy's always leaving me.
      Teddy: How come?
Michelle: Because he's the "Spatula of the Month".
      Teddy: If you say so.
    • Late in the episode when Danny and Vicky join Michelle and Teddy for dinner, Teddy repeats what Michelle told him wrongly, much to Danny's annoyance.
Teddy: Is it because you're the "Spatula of the Month"?
      Danny: Eat your dessert, Teddy.
  • Right Behind Me: Played for Laughs. Joey is baffled about how Danny manages to keep track of the women who fawn over him due to his newfound fame as "Bay Area Bachelor of the Month", so Jesse discloses the method he himself utilized when he was single; namely, attaching some nickname he could remember to the respective women of choice. He then gives some examples for said method, up to reminiscing about a girl named Rhonda, whom he nicknamed "Help Me Rhonda", before Rebecca, who has turned up behind Jesse by this point, snaps him back to reality with: "Help you with what?"
  • Tinkle in the Eye: Shortly after Joey complains while changing diapers, the twin in question pees before Joey can put the replacement diaper on, though it's downplayed as Joey manages to avoid getting himself wet.
Joey: (in the voice of Popeye) Well, blow me down!
  • Title Drop: "Bachelor of the Month", the title of the episode, is what Danny is picked as in a magazine (in the Bay Area, that is).
