Monica and Chandler consider their options for having a child and invite a handsome co-worker of Chandler's to see if he has good genes. Rachel helps Charlie shop for clothes at Joey's prompting. Phoebe comes along, as she's going to a party that Mike is attending and wants to show him she's over him. Ross has the chance to be a key note speaker at a convention in Barbados, but first he needs to be chosen by a professor who unfortunately falls asleep during Ross' speech.
Tropes:
- Bathroom Stall of Overheard Insults: A slight variation with clothing store changing rooms rather than bathroom stalls. Rachel panics that Charlie may have overheard her saying she likes Joey from the next booth. When she and Phoebe test the walls they discover you can hear through them, and the woman on the other side of the room has heard everything. Luckily Charlie wasn't listening that closely and thinks it's Phoebe that likes Joey.
- The Bore: Ross' speech is boring enough to put a fellow professor to sleep.
- The Bus Came Back: At the end of the episode Phoebe runs into David the Scientist who was last seen earlier this season in "TOW the Male Nanny".
- Butt-Monkey: David reveals that he's back in the USA for good because the project he was working on in Minsk turned out to be a complete failure.
- Global Ignorance: Joey claims to have booked a ticket to Bermuda rather than Barbados and assumes he can just rent a car and drive between the two.
- Head-Turning Beauty: When Phoebe shows up at Central Perk in her Little Black Dress, Joey is so impressed that he has to put down his food to compliment her.Joey: WOW! You look...(gestures to the cookie he's putting down) "stop eating" hot! Which is like, the highest level of hotness!
- Hypocritical Humor: Phoebe gets fed up with Rachel trying to find out if Charlie overheard them talking about Joey, demeaning it as a "childish game". She then says she has to go find something to wear in order to beat Mike at "who's more over who" and leaves.
- Love Confessor: Rachel admits that she has a crush on Joey to Phoebe.
- Noodle Incident: Phoebe once ended up having to go to the emergency room after drinking Joey's homemade wine. She tells Joey she doesn't want that happening again.
- Perfumigation: Phoebe asks a cologne spritzer to spray her as a way of making Mike jealous because she smells like another guy. She immediately regrets it because the cologne smells "like beets". It's so bad Rachel can't stand being in the same changing room as her.
- Refuge in Audacity: When Ross accidentally wakes the professor up while trying to leave his office, he enthusiastically thanks the man for accepting him as the keynote speaker, and the professor accepts it (either unaware that he dozed off or accepting the apparent excuse that avoids him revealing he was asleep).
- Sure, Let's Go with That: When Charlie mistakenly believes that it's Phoebe who likes Joey, Rachel goes along and even claims that her friend is a nympho.
