Go To

Ross and Monica's...very attractive...cousin Cassie (Denise Richards) comes to visit. Rachel and Phoebe throw a last-minute bridal shower for Monica. Joey auditions for a movie that requires nudity.

Tropes

  • 24-Hour Party People: Lampshaded. Rachel and Phoebe call everyone in Monica's address book and the party is filled with those who could attend on 24 hour's notice. Phoebe even asks who all these people are.
Rachel: I don't know. I called all the people in Monica's phone book and these are the only ones who could show up on 24 hours notice.
Phoebe: Y'know there's another word for people like that: Losers.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Phoebe who lusts after Cassie same as Chandler and Ross.
  • Behind the Black: One of the guests at Monica's surprise party is hiding behind a chair that blocks her from the camera's view, but would have made her clearly visible to Monica when she walked into the apartment.
  • Between My Legs: When Joey pulls down his pants to show the director how he looks naked, the camera shoots from behind his legs, setting up for when the fake foreskin falls off. Daytime airings of the episode usually remove this shot and have the scene play out on Joey's face with an off-screen "thud".
  • Betty and Veronica: Cassie is unknowingly the Veronica to her cousin Monica's Betty over Chandler the Archie.
  • Bow Chicka Wow Wow: Barry White's "I'm Gonna Love You Just a Little More Baby" plays out every time Cassie flips her hair and Chandler, Ross and Phoebe stare at her. Very reminiscent to 1970's porno music.
  • Brainless Beauty: Cassie is oblivious to Chandler starring at her because he finds her attractive. She also thinks that when her cousin Ross does the same stare at her, that he is simply doing an impression of Chandler.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Monica feels threatened by her cousin Cassie due to her fiancee Chandler finding Cassie attractive and she asks Ross to let Cassie stay at his place.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Joey agreed to the audition even when it was revealed that the part requires him to not be circumcised.
    Monica: What were you thinking?
Joey: I don't know! I really want this part! Y'know, and they tell you, no matter what you get asked at an audition, you say yes. Like if they want you to ride a horse, you tell 'em you can! And just figure out how to do it later.
Monica: Joey! This is not like learning to ride a horse! This is like learning to…grow a turtleneck!
  • Erotic Eating: Ross gets distracted by Cassie eating a hot dog. Even though she isn't trying to make it look sexy.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: Even Phoebe finds herself attracted to Cassie, to the point that she considers asking her out because they're not related.
Phoebe: (internally) Ask her out, she's not your cousin!
  • Forbidden Fruit: Ross finds himself attracted to his cousin Cassie despite knowing that they're related.
  • Forceful Kiss: Ross attempts to kiss Cassie, causing her to reel back in disgust.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: As they start freaking out over putting together a bridal shower for Monica, Phoebe tells Rachel to calm down, which she does. Then Phoebe starts shaking an already calm Rachel to calm herself down.
  • Girl of the Week: Cassie for Ross, oddly enough.
  • If It's You, It's Okay: Phoebe isn't bisexual but considers asking Ross' cousin Cassie out. Though it's unknown if Phoebe really is bisexual or she's just into Cassie.
  • Incest-ant Admirer: Ross is attracted to his cousin Cassie, who is repulsed when he tries to kiss her.
Cassie: Hey! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!
  • Inner Monologue: Ross has one in his head as he is tormented by his forbidden attraction to his cousin Cassie.
  • I'm Standing Right Here: Monica bragging that she doesn't get to enjoy her bridal shower party with a bunch of people she doesn't like. Cue all the guests rising out of their hiding spots saying an uncomfortable surprise.
  • Kissing Cousins: Ross finds himself attracted to Cassie and is at first conflicted about it. When he thinks Cassie might be attracted to him as well, he makes his move... and regrets it.
  • Let's Wait a While: Chandler and Monica have agreed not to have sex again until their wedding night. After a few days they're both starting to regret it. Chandler decides to start a fight so they can temporarily "break up" and have sex. Monica is willing to go along with it until she remembers Cassie is in their spare room and will hear them.
  • Male Frontal Nudity: Discussed. Joey auditions for a movie that requires him to be naked. After agonizing over it, he decides to do it, but then it turns out his character is supposed to be uncircumcised, so Monica makes him a fake foreskin for him to wear. Come the audition, he disrobes for the director... and the foreskin falls off. (Naturally, no actual nudity is shown.)
  • Male Gaze: Chandler and Ross both experience slow-motion gazes when they look at Cassie.
  • Mistaken for Flirting: Ross gets the idea into his head that his cousin Cassie is somehow trying to seduce him. It doesn't end well.
  • Not Helping Your Case: When Ross attempts to kiss Cassie, she freaks out and asks him what is he doing. Ross doesn't say anything and attempts to say something to rectify his mistake, only to tell her that he hasn't had sex in a very long time.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Rachel and Phoebe, when they realize they have to throw Monica a bridal shower when they haven't even planned one.
    • Monica, when she sees that her fiancee finds her cousin Cassie attractive.
    • Rachel again when she and Phoebe have to get Monica a present for her.
    • Ross when he sees how attractive his cousin Cassie is.
  • Rule of Three: When Cassie first flips her hair, Chandler is staring at her. When Cassie flips her hair a second time, Ross is staring at her. When Cassie flips her hair for the third and final time, Phoebe is staring at her.
  • Sex Is Evil, and I Am Horny: Ross really wants to seduce his cousin Cassie, even though knowing that doing so would be wrong. Not helping is the fact that Ross hasn't had sex in a long time before Cassie showed up.
  • Scar Survey: Cassie slides her t-shirt off her shoulder to show Ross the freckles she got from a hot summer day at their relatives years ago. Unfortunately this turns Ross on even more.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After Ross tries to kiss her, Cassie immediately moves out of his place and seeks a new place to crash at.
  • Shaking Her Hair Loose: Cassie doing this gets Chandler, Ross and Phoebe's attention. Every time she does it Barry White's "I'm Gonna Love You Just A Little Bit More, Baby" starts playing in the background.
  • Shout-Out: Ross and Cassie watch Logan's Run, which Ross considers "the sexiest movie ever."
    • Every time Cassie shakes her hair loose in slow motion, "I'm Gonna Love You Just a Little More Baby" by Barry White starts playing.
  • Sick and Wrong: Ross' thoughts detailing his inner conflict due to being attracted to his cousin Cassie.
Ross: (thinking) She's your COUSIN...she's your COUSIN. If she knew what was going on in your head, she would think you were sick! (...) Or would she? Let’s back up a second. She was the one who suggested opening a bottle of wine. She was the one who turned down the lights. She was the one that wanted to rent Logan’s Run, the sexiest movie ever. (Cassie grabs the blanket from behind him and looks at him) Oh, I know that look. Forget it. I want it. She wants it. I’m going in.
  • Something Else Also Rises: Ross has a bowl of popcorn in his lap for this reason when he's watching a movie with Cassie.
  • Surprise Party: Monica assumes Rachel and Phoebe planned a surprise bridal shower, which they forgot to plan, so they hastily put one together. But then they forget to invite Monica, and by the time she arrives, they tell her the guests already left. Monica is actually glad, because she gets to spend the time with her two best friends, and not a bunch of people she doesn't even like. And that's when those other guests come out of their hiding places.
  • Ticket-Line Campout: Cassie mentions the last time she saw Ross he was camped out for opening day of Return of the Jedi.
Ross: Oh. Oh, that's right. So-so you did see me that day because it seemed like you didn't.
Cassie: Ah yeah, sorry about that.
  • Very Fake Résumé: The inciting incident of Joey's plotline is that he's auditioning for a role in a Historical Fiction movie that requires specifically uncircumcised Male Frontal Nudity. Joey untruthfully claims to be uncircumcised. It's a mostly Justified Trope because they go through the whole audition process first, tell him he's perfect for the role and they want to hire him — and then, at the last minute, spring the uncircumcised requirement on him. Under those circumstances, Joey lies. He tries to create a DIY fake foreskin, which doesn't go over well.
Casting Director: It's really important to the director that everything in this movie is authentic. And so in your love scene with Sarah, she talks about how she's never seen a naked man who wasn't Jewish. [...] So, uh, well, the director is insisting that whoever play that part be authentically, anatomically... not Jewish. [...] An Italian Catholic immigrant, at this time, would not be...
    • While explaining the situaion to Monica, Joey mentions that he was always taught that he should say "yes" when a casting director asks if he has a particular skill (many real-life actors have said they were told the same thing) which is why he's run into this trope so often.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Cassie's appropriate reaction when her cousin Ross attempts to kiss her.
