Joey auditions for a show called Mac and C.H.E.E.S.E.. The gang supports him in their own ways, but Chandler forgets to write down a memo, which may have blown Joey's chances at getting the role.

- Bad "Bad Acting": Joey has Phoebe help him run his lines for the auditon. Her delivery is stilted and too loud, but she thinks she's doing great. Ross yells to be "realistic" about his hearing loss following an explosion.
- Buddy Cop Show: Mac and C.H.E.E.S.E. is a futuristic buddy cop show. C.H.E.E.S.E. is a robot that the human character Mac partners with.
- Clip Show: Much of the episode consists of the gang reminiscing about past events, so a lot of the runtime consists of clips from past episodes.
- Fun with Acronyms: The robot's name C.H.E.E.S.E. stands for Computerised Humanoid Electronically Enhanced Secret Enforcer. Joey calls it a lucky coincidence that it turned out like that, not realizing that it was certainly on purpose on part of the show's creators.
- Large Ham: Joey rehearses his coveted role as Mac with Phoebe as C.H.E.E.S.E.. She is completely over-the-top for emotional scenes, apparently not at all caring that she's supposed to be playing a robot.
- Man Hug: Chandler and Joey hug to celebrate him finally getting the role of Mac. This leads to a montage of all the times they've hugged over the series.Joey: Hey, do we do this too much?
Chandler: I think so. Yeah, get off me.
Joey: Yeah. (they push each other away) - Steel Eardrums: While playing the villain Ross yells all his lines because, as he points out, there was just an explosion and his hearing would be impaired.
