Rachel gets a job interview at Ralph Lauren, but fears she botched it after mistakenly kissing the interviewer. Monica hears about how sexually active Phoebe and Gary (the policeman from the previous episode) are and gets competitive over it. Joey sees a hot girl who lives in Ross' building and has trouble meeting her.

- All Men Are Perverts: Zig-zagged with Chandler. When Monica first talks to Chandler about being the hotter couple, she just wants to repeatedly have sex in her apartment. Chandler tells her she needs to tone down the competitiveness, but in the process of discussing exactly what she's proposing, he recognizes there's really no reason for him to say no to this and leaves with her. However, he draws the line at Making Love in All the Wrong Places when she tries to seduce him in the men's bathroom, and rationally talks to Monica about how excited he is about how their relationship has endured and grown.
- Character Development: When Monica becomes fixated on proving that she and Chandler are a hotter couple than Gary and Phoebe, Chandler explicitly acknowledges that he and Monica are in a different place with their relationship that he's never experienced before.
- Commitment Issues: When acknowledging his development, Chandler discusses this by noting he's never been in a relationship that lasted this long before.
- Competition Freak: Monica, again. She's really determined to show that Chandler and her are the "hotter", more sexually active couple than Phoebe and Gary.
- Disproportionate Retribution: Invoked in a call-back to how Ross refused to chip in for the handyman's retirement fund when he moved into the building. He meets a female tenant and when she brings said situation up, he immediately assumes she thinks badly of him and begins to walk away. However, she admits she disagrees with the other tenants and thinks what they did was wrong as Ross just moved in and didn't know the guy.
- Failed a Spot Check: After Joey twice tries and fails to find the hot girl's apartment, Monica is able to point out that he was checking the wrong level and apartment because he misidentified the staircase window and the ground level as residential areas; he was looking for her on the third floor eighth apartment along, but the girl is actually on the second floor seventh apartment along.
- The Klutz: Chandler insists Gary can trust him to handle a gun and then accidentally tips coffee out of his mug onto the floor.
- Making Love in All the Wrong Places: Phoebe and Gary had sex in a park since nobody was around (Phoebe is able to name the law that makes this illegal). Monica tries to match this by trying to have sex with Chandler in the restaurant's men's bathroom, but Chandler dissuades her.
- Noodle Incident: Joey mentions that he can't believe he almost lost "another" girl because of counting (he didn't realise which floor and apartment the hot girl was in), but provides no further details as to how a counting error cost him a chance with a previous girl.
- Oh, Crap!: Phoebe upon realizing she triggered Monica.Phoebe: Oh, God, I woke the beast.
- Open Mouth, Insert Foot: With all of Joey's talk about her, Chandler remarks he's got to check out this hot girl and heads for the window. He then remembers Monica is in the room and immediately walks over to her.
- Skewed Priorities: Monica is determined to show that she and Chandler are still a "hot couple".
