Phoebe's grandmother dies, leading her to meet her father, Frank, at the funeral. Joey dresses up for an audition, including carrying around a "man's bag" with encouragement from Rachel, but he's mocked by Chandler and Ross for it. Chandler discovers Monica's massages are awful, but struggles to tell her so.

- The "Fun" in "Funeral": We don't get to see Frances' funeral but Phoebe greets everyone by handing them a pair of 3-D glasses.
- The Hilarity of Hats: Joey's plot starts with him wearing a top hat out of nowhere, mismatching the rest of his clothes.
- Insistent Terminology: Joey doesn't own a purse; it's a men’s bag.
- Killed Off for Real: Phoebe's grandmother dies offscreen.
- Massage of Love: Chandler and Monica take turns giving each other massages. He seems to be pretty good at it, but while Monica means well, the results are awful.

Frank: Shh! No! Joe Hill! - Wham Line: When Phoebe asks the stranger at the funeral who he is and he replies with "Frank Buffay".
