Chandler and Monica get a visit from a social worker to check their apartment, only to learn that she had slept with Joey. Phoebe and Mike decide to donate their wedding money to charity. Ross tries to convince Rachel to let Emma go on a swing.
Tropes:
- Absurd Phobia: Rachel is terrified of swings because her hair got tangled in one when she was young. The whole thing is played for laughs (especially how she explains the origin of her fear in a very overblown manner) and Ross finds it ridiculous.
- Batter Up!: Joey brings his baseball bat when he thinks Chandler and Monica are in danger.
- Covert Distress Code: Joey thinks that "Bert" is his and Chandler's code word for danger. Chandler tells him they never agreed to that.
- Enter Stage Window: Since Chandler won't let Joey into the apartment (so the social worker doesn't see him), Joey resorts to using a ladder to climb in through their balcony.
- Gaslighting: Joey does this to Laura to make her think that she was the one who never called him after they slept together.
- Neat Freak: When Monica starts to scold Chandler for not helping her clean the apartment he reminds her they both know she doesn't really want him helping and would rather do it herself.
- Noodle Incident: Phoebe mentions that she spent her sixteenth birthday being chased around a tire yard by a man who wanted to "kill me or whatever". She later tells Mike that she escaped when a friend shot the guy.
- Shout-Out: Chandler says that the "crazy guy" (actually Joey) is named Bert, and his older brother is named Ernie.
- Spiders Are Scary: Rachel demands that Ross hold a spider in exchange for her going on the swings. He freaks out at the mere mention of spiders.
- Take a Third Option: After giving their money to charity, and then asking for it back, Phoebe and Mike become indecisive over what to do. The clerk simply rejects their money.
- We Do Not Know Each Other: Monica and Chandler hide their friendship with Joey from the social worker, since they slept with each other and he never called back. Chandler tries to claim he's a loony called Bert who's constantly trying to make friends with them.
