Recap / Freshy Kanal Edgar Wright Vs Wes Anderson

Go To

Quirky-film directors Edgar Wright and Wes Anderson rap against each other to see who has the better Signature Style.

This rap battle contains examples of:

  • Book Ends: Edgar Wright's part starts and ends with commenting that Wes is going to get fired.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Name dropped. At the start of the battle, Wright casually mentions that Anderson is going to get fired before immediately moving on to other disses. At the end of his part, Wright disses Anderson's films for having "grandma fetish gunk" and that is why he is going to get fired. Also, there's a gun in the background both times.
  • Hashtag Rap:
Edgar Wright: When Disney realise your films are filled with grandma fetish gunk,
    you'll get fired eventually — Chekov's Gun.
  • Hurricane of Puns: Most of Anderson's last verse is a barrage of puns.
Wes Anderson: I could never sit back
'Cos your whip-pans give me whiplash
You should ditch this match like Ant-Man
The French Dispatch your films into trash Cannes
Sly dresser like Mr. Fox, executive on the set
While Wes is dropping the jaws, a guy sunk his in your leg
I'll keep Owen by my side, even when the show's over
You thought you were hot stuff and gave Nick Frost the cold shoulder
Critics are chasing you down, now you're stuck on da fence
Of course you named it Cornetto — those plots are wafer-thin
And here's how to take a dive, with the state of your dated line-up
You drive an audience away with the cast of Baby Driver.
  • Mickey Mousing: In-universe, Anderson points out that Wright's scenes usually syncs his soundtracks as a way to put down his ability to rap on a track.
  • Production Posse: In-universe, Wright mocks Wes for always working with Owen Wilson as if there is no other actor he can direct. Wes turns it around saying he keeps his partnership with Wilson long after he became a big name.
  • Signature Style: Both directors point out filmmaking elements their opponents uses throughout the battle and turn them into disses, such as Wright saying Anderson's deadpan dialogue would make him a good zombie or Anderson saying Wright's whip pans cause whiplash.
  • Visual Pun: When name dropping Chekhov's Gun, Edgar Wright points to the literal gun in the background.
