Recap / Frasier S 11 E 01 No Sex Please Were Skitting

Go To

Roz is unsatisfied with her new job, and comes back to KACL, acting as though nothing has changed. Frasier believes her attachment is based on deep attraction to him stemming from their one-night stand. Meanwhile, Daphne and Niles decide to try and conceive a child.

Tropes:

  • Bavarian Fire Drill: Niles sarcastically suggests that Roz simply go back to KACL and act like she never quit. She decides to take him seriously and does just that, and it actually works.
  • Brutal Honesty: Roz, re; her feelings for Frasier after their having slept together.
Frasier: Let me get this straight: You haven't had feelings for me since we slept together?
Roz: God, no! Weren't you there?
  • Delayed Reaction: Roz mentions she and Frasier slept together to Niles, who continues talking until what she said actually sinks in.
  • Hypocritical Humor: When Niles and Roz meet up, she asks if Frasier's present. Niles huffily asks why everyone assumes they do everything together, but when Roz says she's avoiding him, Niles tells her to talk fast, because they're supposed to be meeting for coffee.
  • Internal Reveal: Roz dismisses Niles' suggestion that she has feelings for Frasier and mentions the time they slept together, which Niles didn't actually know about until now. He's highly amused by the revelation.
Niles: Well, I suppose it's only natural. When the wolf and the lamb work together, it's only a matter of time before the wolf gets his way. I hope you were gentle with him.
  • Law of Inverse Fertility: Niles learns that his sperm have low motility and that it might be difficult for him to get Daphne pregnant. He worries about how to tell her and tries out some homeopathic methods to "rouse the troops". When he goes home that evening he finds Daphne has taken a test and is already pregnant.
  • Less Embarrassing Term: Martin gets grossed out by the idea of Niles having sold his sperm, and demands he refer to it as "s" instead. Which due to the pronunciation making it sound like "ass" actually makes it sound more sordid.
  • Mood Whiplash:
    • Niles at the sperm clinic starts with typical "tee-hee, sperm" jokes, until the nurse reveals his sample suffers from low motility, meaning he and Daphne might not be able to have kids.
    • A serious discussion between Frasier and Niles is interupted by Niles's specially designed pants making an odd noise. This rears its head again at the end of the episode when Daphne discovers she is pregnant... and Niles's pants malfunction, sending him running off in pain.
  • Never Heard That One Before: The nurse at the sperm clinic gives Niles an icy stare when he tries using a euphemism to get around saying he donated, and dares him to just try a line she's never heard before. He wisely does not.
  • Pregnancy Test Plot: Daphne tells Niles that she took an ovulation test and it's a good time to try getting pregnant. As they head off to their bedroom Niles realises she actually took one of the pregnancy tests... and it's positive.
  • Ready for Lovemaking: At the end of the episode Niles comes home to find Daphne waiting for him in a slinky nightgown with music playing and a plate of oysters because she's currently ovulating (or so she thinks).
  • Refuge in Audacity: Taking a suggestion from Niles, Roz marches back into KACL like she never left and quite literally shoves her replacement, a woman in a wheelchair, out the door.
  • Sarcasm Failure: Niles had meant his suggestion to Roz in sarcasm, but she decides it's a good enough plan.
  • Ship Sinking: Roz makes it clear despite the events of the previous season she has no feelings for Frasier whatsoever.
