Gertrude refuses to go home to England since her husband, Daphne's father, left her while Frasier goes to desperate lengths to get an American flag Cam Winston hung over his balcony removed.

- Immigrant Patriotism: In his attempts to get rid of the giant flag, Frasier appeals to Daphne that having it covering the windows must make her uncomfortable as a British subject. Daphne replies that it actually just reminds her of why she wanted to move to America in the first place.
- Get Out!: After finally having enough of Simon's behavior, Frasier throws him out of his apartment.
- Patriotic Fervor: Cam Winston weaponises this by hanging a giant American Flag over Frasier's balcony. The tenant's board refuse to make him move it because of their intense patriotism. Cam prompts them to start singing the national anthem, and while they're distracted quietly cuts a deal with Frasier to take down the flag in exchange for his parking space.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Simon knows he's too selfish to take care of Gertrude so he bails to California in the middle of the night. When Gertrude defends his decision Daphne finally snaps and tells her mother off for her favoritism.
