Recap / Frasier S 08 E 22 A Day In May

Go To

Frasier comforts a man (played by Patrick Breen) whose wife abandoned him and took their four children with her. Niles and Daphne take Eddie to the dog park while Martin has a secretive appointment.

Tropes:

  • Clingy Jealous Girl: A gender-flipped example when Niles gets jealous when he sees how chummy Daphne is with an attractive guy at the dog park. He ends up getting Daphne to promise not to come back to the dog park again but doesn't explain why he's asking. Just after she finally agrees, she reveals that the attractive guy is about to move permanently to Chile. Niles is left feeling foolish while Daphne muses that now she has "one irrational demand" that she can use on him.
  • Erotic Eating: Lana buys a bunch of popsicles to get new sticks to fix the toy house. Frasier muses that when they were in high school he'd have paid to watch her eat one. Lana responds by biting hers in half.
  • Mood Whiplash: The Frasier/Lana and Niles/Daphne storylines are typically humorous and strongly contrast with the more sober scenes of Martin attending the parole hearing for the guy who shot him.
  • Reformed, but Rejected: One of the episode's subplots is Martin attending the parole hearing of the man responsible for shooting him and causing his Career-Ending Injury. At the hearing, it's stated that the man's done his best to better himself in prison...but when Martin is asked to say anything, either for or against the man, Martin claims he has nothing to say. The parole board ultimately decide that the man hasn't served enough time for his crime despite his best behavior.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: Right after Frasier's tried to convince someone that Honesty Is the Best Policy, it cuts to Roz telling her daughter Alice to lie about throwing up in Frasier's car and that any bad smells were already there, rewarding her with chocolate for nodding along.
