Recap / Frasier S 07 E 13 Theyre Playing Our Song

Go To

Frasier goes overboard when he writes a theme song for his show.

Tropes:

  • Complexity Addiction: Frasier's initial concept when it comes to a jingle for his show involves renting an orchestra.
  • Ear Worm: Not helping Frasier's woes is Martin's ditties are immediately catchy, as proven when Frasier starts humming one when he thinks Martin's out of ear-shot.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: When Frasier learns that Kenny prefers a very simple ditty Martin had come up with while flossing his teeth that morning over his own orchestral arrangement, it ends up disheartening him, and he struggles even harder to find the perfect jingle without going with his father's suggestion.
  • Meaningful Echo: At the end of the episode, Martin offers to help Frasier come up with a jingle without going over-the-top. He listens to Frasier's concerns, identifies the root of what Frasier wants, and then says that if he needs more help, all Frasier's got to do is ask. This ends up giving Frasier the inspiration he needs, and the final line of his simplified theme song is "All you've got to do is ask."
  • Prima Donna Director: Frasier conducting an orchestra, with his ego, pomposity and control freak tendencies pumped into overdrive.
  • Stunned Silence: Kenny's reaction after hearing Frasier's "jingle". He is stunned, just not for the reasons Frasier thinks.
Daphne: That was like Gilbert & Sullivan... only frightening.
