Recap / Frasier S 03 E 24 You Can Go Home Again

Go To

During the 3rd anniversary of his show, Frasier listens to his first radio broadcast and reminisces all the events that led up to the show.

Tropes:

  • Blatant Lies: Niles lures Frasier into meeting Martin again by claiming he's completely changed personalities. It's pretty obvious he's lying through his teeth, but by the time Fras learns this, it's too late.
  • Call-Back: Martin in the flashbacks is the curmudgeonly jerkass of the earliest episodes.
  • Closest Thing We Got: How Roz wound up as Fras' producer in the first place. The other guy quit before the first show even began, quite mysteriously after Frasier spent an entire night outlining his idea of optimum mental health, leaving Roz as the only person K-ACL had who was able to work with him. And she didn't want the job, thinking psychiatry is "all bull" to begin with.
  • Epic Fail: Frasier's first recording is apparently done live, and with no time to prepare, with his producer having quit already. It's a true dumpster fire so bad that by the first ad break Roz is trying to get another job, and Frasier actually forgets he's on-air. Apparently it didn't get any better from there.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: Daphne briefly runs into Frasier and Niles at Cafe Nervosa during the flashback - about six months before she applies to be Martin's physical therapist — asking for some sugar. The interaction was so brief that it's not expected that any of them would remember.
  • Futureshadowing: In Nervosa, Niles jubilantly tells Frasier how his marriage with Maris couldn't be happier. Then Daphne passes by their table and asks Frasier for some sugar, causing Niles, who hadn't seen her, to stop and sniff the air.
  • G-Rated Stoner: Roz references a past as The Stoner while on the phone for another job.
Roz: Of course I could do a gardening show. If I can grow plants in my dorm room closet, I must know a thing or two about horticulture.
  • History with Celebrity: Daphne says her dad never gets tired of telling the story of how he shared a cigar with Winston Churchill during the blackouts - "he thinks!"
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: The 'joyous' reunion of the Crane men.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Frasier's response to hearing the start of his first recording, and the incredibly pretentious beginning he makes.
  • Whole Episode Flashback: At least 90% of the episode shows how the events of the entire show were set up.
