Recap / Frasier S 03 E 22 Frasier Loves Roz

Go To

When Roz begins dating a womanizer who is a patient of his brother's, Frasier must find a way to prevent Roz from pursuing him.

Tropes:

  • The "I Love You" Stigma: Ben has a pattern of dumping women when they say they love him, which leads to Roz being heartbroken after saying it to him.
  • Impossibly Tacky Clothes: The frilly, neon-green bridesmaid's dress Roz is expected to wear to a friend's wedding. Frasier notes that once she's done with it she can give it to Goodwill and "make some Irish drag queen very happy", the end credits prove him right. Roz theorises that ugly bridesmaid's dresses are meant to make the bride look better in comparison. Bulldog offers an even cruder opinion:
Bulldog: Never been to a wedding where I didn't bag at least one bridesmaid. And the uglier the dress, the quicker they want to get out of them. (looks at Roz's dress) This one would hit the floor before the rice.
  • Loophole Abuse: The only way that Frasier can inform Roz about Ben's womanizing habits without withdrawing his ethics is if Roz has a mental illness. He and Niles scramble to come up with any irrational behaviour they can loosely define as such to justify Frasier telling her. Frasier comes up with her once ordering "a white zinfandel" which Niles accepts as valid.
  • Out-of-Context Eavesdropping: Daphne overhears Frasier talking about Ben over the phone, and not knowing the whole story she interprets his frustration over his ethical constraints as him being upset that Ben is keeping him from Roz. She conveys this to Roz, who then interprets Frasier's vague warnings about Ben as not coming from genuine concern but jealousy and sexual frustration.
  • Platonic Declaration of Love: Roz tells Frasier she loves him at the end of the episode. She clearly means it in a friendly way and is just testing his assurance that not all men will freak out when hearing those words.
