Recap / Frasier S 02 E 23 The Innkeepers

Go To

Frasier and Niles purchase a restaurant they went to when they were younger when it begins to lose business. Hilarity Ensues when they try to keep it running.

Tropes:

  • Car Meets House: The climax of the evening arrives when Otto, reassigned to the valet stand, crashes a car into the side of the restaurant.
  • Disaster Dominoes: The restaurant ends up in a disaster with some confusion involving one-way doors all the way to Otto the valet driving into the restaurant.
  • The Illegal: When Niles mentions that one of the guests is head of the immigration bureau the entire kitchen staff runs away.
  • Jaw Drop: Niles does this when Roz spitefully licks a valuable book he has in retaliation for him snarking about her promiscuity.
  • Noodle Incident: Martin offhandedly mentions an incident where he arrested a guy for doing something with eels, though it's just as likely he was being sarcastic.
  • Only Sane Man: Martin tries to warn his sons that owning a restaurant is a lot harder than it looks, and cites a restaurant he used to know that was constantly changing owners. In typical fashion, Frasier and Niles completely ignore his warnings.
  • Photographic Memory: Otto, the head waiter at Orsini's, is legendary for being to remember every single order without having to write anything down. Unfortunately, time has taken its toll and Otto's memory is no longer what it used to be.
  • Restaurant-Owning Episode: The entire premise of the episode.
  • Telepathic Sprinklers: The fireball from the Cherries Jubilee sets off the restaurant's sprinklers, sending the diners running out the door. The only person who's happy about this turn of events is Bulldog, because his date's soaked dress is "clinging to her like saran wrap".
  • Your Approval Fills Me with Shame: Bulldog is the only one who found the pratfalls amusing, much to Frasier's consternation.
