Frasier and Niles decide to show their support for a politician running for Congress when their father shows support for the opposing candidate that they dislike.
Tropes:
- Brick Joke: Roz mentions that when Chopper Dave is bored at night, he likes to buzz buildings with his helicopter. He shows up at Frasier's building at the end of the episode, causing the doctor to think he's being visited by a UFO.
- Easily Forgiven: Patterson does not hold a grudge on Frasier for making him lose the election.
- Election Day Episode: The episode ends with the election between Thorpe and Patterson.
- Landslide Election: Holden Thorpe gains 92% of the vote due to the reveal that Phil Patterson believes he was abducted by aliens.
- No Party Given: Neither candidate's party is explicitly said, but it's implied that Thorpe is a Republican while Patterson is a Democrat.
- Poor Communication Kills: This is what basically hurts Phil Patterson's chances of winning the election. Bulldog tells Frasier that Patterson has gotten into trouble over aliens. Frasier assumes that he means the press have discovered he thinks he was abducted by aliens when he was actually referring to some Guatemalan immigrants he was sponsoring and are believed to be illegal immigrants.
- Riddle for the Ages: Patterson's belief in his abduction is never revealed to just be, as Frasier suggested, a one off moment from the stress of politics, or a sign of deeper insanity.
- Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Because of Frasier making the whole "abducted by aliens" thing public, well...you probably know how that effects Phil Patterson in the election.
- Take Our Word for It: We don't get to see Martin's wound on his butt, but judging by the horrified reactions of Frasier and Niles, it should probably stay that way.
