"Put me down, Red!"
Wanting the spotlight for herself, Red starts a club, but when the others turn it into a helping club and elect Gobo High Helper, Red leaves in a huff and starts a helping club of her own. She kicks out the other members after they break the rule of talking to members of Gobo's club—which they decide to join.

Red rescues Cotterpin, who is stuck on a tall rock formation. Cotterpin joins Red's club but gets annoyed when Red not only makes unfair rules but lowers her down on a piece of string to spy on Gobo's club. When Red wants her aid in helping a Gorg, in an effort to one-up Gobo's club, Cotterpin refuses and quits.

Red goes to the Gorgs' garden by herself and finds Pa trying to retrieve Ma's wedding handkerchief, which is stuck midway down the Gorgs' well. Pa lowers Red down the well on the end of his fishing line, and Red manages to get the handkerchief, but Pa deliberately leaves her on the rim of the well.

Meanwhile, Cotterpin, worried about Red's having gone to the Gorgs' garden, tells the other Fraggles where Red is. They come to rescue her, but Red refuses their help, and Pa captures her friends. Red saves them and decides Fraggles don't need a club after all.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Achilles in His Tent: Cotterpin, fed up with doing everything Red wants, leaves—but later, worried about her, she tells Gobo that Red's gone to the Gorgs' garden.
  • Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better: While singing "One and One (I'm the One That Won!)," Red challenges Mokey at singing high notes, Boober at jumping, Wembley at running, and Gobo at laughing. As the title hints, Red wins each time.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: After Red rescues her friends, Gobo realizes that Red only started her club because she wanted to be High Helper. Her friends immediately elect her High Helper of their club.
Red: Gosh! Okay, fellow members of Red's Helping Club, as High Helper, I will now make up the rules, rules which you must follow.
Gobo, Mokey, Boober, and Wembley: Right!
Red: So the first rule is... no one in this club will be in this club!
Gobo, Mokey, Boober, and Wembley: What?
Red: Yeah. Who needs a dumb old club when we've got each other?
[The others laugh, and the five of them share a Group Hug.]
  • Character Name and the Noun Phrase: The episode's title.
  • Company Cross References: When Sprocket is refused admission to the Top Dog Club, he decides to start a club of his own: The Underdog Club. Doc, though, who's helping compile a list of members, is extremely picky and keeps rejecting dogs—including Rowlf, much to Sprocket's dismay.
  • Continuity Nod:
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: When her friends come to rescue her from the rim of the Gorgs' well, Red seems ready to accept their help. But when Mokey adds that it's "in the true spirit of our helping club", Red tells them she doesn't need their help and to go away.
  • Driven by Envy: Red decides to help a Gorg because she wants to one-up Gobo's club.
  • Gosh Dang It to Heck!: Pa's curse of choice is "Drat and Deuteronomy!"
  • Help, I'm Stuck!:
    • How Cotterpin and Red become reacquainted. The latter deliberately gets Cotterpin stuck, then rescues her, sixty-five times, to one-up Gobo's club.
    • While drinking from a cup, Wembley gets it stuck on his nose. Mokey manages to get it off.
  • High-Dive Escape: Pa leaves Red on the rim of the well, then puts a cage over her friends. Red frees them by having Gobo hook the fishing line to the cage, then diving down the well and into the pond, pulling the cage off.
  • Jerkass Ball: Red takes this, especially toward Cotterpin.
  • Jerkass Realization: Red has one when she's dangling from the end of the fishing line, which Pa is lowering her into the well on.
Red: No wonder Cotterpin quit. This is not fun!
  • Little "No": Boober's reaction to Red's hopping challenge is a small but pained "Oh, no!"
  • Painters: After being exhausted by Red's challenges, the other Fraggles decide to play a quiet game of Paint a Song. Later, Red sees them painting pictures.
  • The Rival: Red considers Gobo this for most of the episode, but it's essentially a one-sided rivalry, as Gobo would rather make up with Red than compete with her.
  • Rule #1: Red does this while singing "The Rules Song (I'm the Leader Now)" to Cotterpin.
Red: [singing] Rule number is one is a barrel of fun,
'Cause it tells you what to do.
When you run, when you walk,
When you jump off a rock,
You gotta use one foot, not two.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Cotterpin, sick of doing whatever Red says, quits her club.
  • Silent Treatment: Red forbids the original members of her club to speak to anyone in Gobo's club. It doesn't work out, as Red expels them for violating this rule and they end up joining Gobo's club.
  • Soft Water: Red falls several feet from the Gorgs' well into the Great Hall's pond and is perfectly fine.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Red helps Pa retrieve Ma's wedding handkerchief, which is stuck in the well and is too far for him to reach. Rather than change his view of Fraggles, Pa simply sees himself as responsible for what just happened, deliberately leaves Red on the rim of the well, and captures her friends.
  • We Help the Helpless: The purpose of Gobo's and Red's clubs.
  • Wrong Assumption: Red sends Cotterpin to spy on Gobo's club. Cotterpin hears Gobo say, "I get the feeling she'd help a Gorg if she thought we had, just to prove that her club could do it." When Cotterpin reports that Gobo's club is talking about helping Gorgs, Red thinks they actually are going to help a Gorg. She then decides to beat Gobo's club to it by finding a Gorg to help.
