Recap / Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends S4E5 "Infernal Slumber"

Go To

Bloo, Wilt, and Eduardo decide to have a slumber party at Mac's apartment...without telling him. To make matters worse, Goo, Coco, and Cheese later join in. Mac, knowing that his mother will learn he hasn't given up Bloo if his friends wake her up, struggles to keep everything quiet.

Tropes found in this episode include:

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Eduardo has been trying hard all night to take nice pictures of the sleepover, calling them his "memories". When Terrence threatens to break the camera, Ed snaps and knocks him out cold.
  • Brick Joke: Wilt cleans the inside of Mac's apartment early in the episode. Near the end, Mac's Mom sees how clean the apartment is and thinks Mac was the one who cleaned it, praising him for it.
  • Cassandra Truth: In The Stinger, Mac's Mom finds a huge hole in the roof of her apartment and is quick to blame Terrence for making it. Terrence tells her that he didn't make the hole, the imaginary friends from Foster's did, and they visited their apartment last night. Given Terrence's reputation as a troublemaker, Mac's Mom doesn't believe him and grounds him.
  • Covering for the Noise: While the friends are trying to keep Terrence from getting his mom, Mac tries to cover up the sounds of the struggle by coughing.
  • Don't Wake the Sleeper: Throughout the episode, Mac tries to keep Goo and the imaginary friends from waking up his Mom or Terrence.
  • Embarrassing Old Photo: Eduardo finds a photo of Mac as a baby, taking a bath in the sink due to how tiny he was.
  • Five-Second Rule: Slightly exaggerated when Bloo offers Mac a Potato Chip that fell on the ground.
Bloo: Fell on the floor, but 2-second rule. (...) Well, 14-second rule.
  • Idiot Ball: Goes to Bloo (who knows if they get caught Mac can’t see them anymore) and basically everyone at the sleepover besides Mac for making so much noise. Then for creating the giant hole at the end to retrieve a camera.
    • Also, shout out to Edwardo who dares Bloo to wake up Mac’s mom, then Bloo for trying to go through with it.
  • The Key Is Behind the Lock: When the imaginary friends are on their way back to Foster's, Eduardo realizes he left his photos behind, so they go back to Mac's apartment to get them. When they arrive, the door is locked, and Bloo suddenly remembers that he left the key inside. To get inside, they make a hole in the roof, which Mac's mom accuses Terrence of doing in The Stinger.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: The friends and Goo have been largely ignoring Mac's pleas to be quiet all night. However, when there's a serious risk of Mac getting in trouble because of Terrence, they all willingly keep him away from Mac's mother until the situation is under better control.
  • No Indoor Voice: Goo, Cheese, and Bloo refuse to talk quietly.
  • Pie in the Face: Bloo tries to pull the "whipped cream in the face" prank on Terrence, and later Mac's Mom, but Mac stops him both times. Bloo later succeeds with Terrence after Mac, Goo, and the imaginary friends convince him that he's having a bad dream, only for him to realize otherwise.
  • Real Dreams are Weirder: When Terrence comes into the living room and sees Mac with Goo and the imaginary friends, he's only half-awake. Mac takes advantage of this by telling him he's having a bad dream. To convince him, Eduardo pretends to be a clock, Wilt does the worm across the carpet, Goo and Coco ride a tandem bicycle, Bloo starts talking backwards while petting a log, and Cheese...is himself. Terrence becomes convinced that he's having an Acid Reflux Nightmare and goes back to bed.
  • Running Gag: Each character is constantly doing something that threatens to wake up Mac's mother and Terrence:
    • Bloo wants to play a prank on Terrence, and is narrowly stopped by Mac.
    • Wilt wants to clean up the apartment a bit as a nice gesture for Mac's mom.
    • Eduardo wants to take a lot of pictures for the friends back at Foster's...with the flash on.
    • Cheese and Coco keep fighting over a smoothie.
    • Goo is her usual loud self.
  • Slumber Party: Bloo deciding to throw one is the plot of the whole episode. Unfortunately, he didn't think to ask permission first, and thought that it would be a good idea to simply show up in the middle of the night (on a school night, no less).
