Recap / Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends S3E14 "Cuckoo for Coco Cards!"

Go To

Mac brings his class over to Foster's for a field trip, and Bloo as usual tries to be his showboating self to get all the attention, but it's Coco who the kids go gaga over. After getting in a fight with her over this, Coco makes a series of collectors cards of every imaginary friend in Fosters, and Bloo claims he can collect them all by himself without apologizing or needing help from Coco.

Tropes:

  • Chekhov's Gun: Bloo intially wanted his own collectors card out of vanity, but upon realizing it was ridiculously common, discarded it. When Coco tells him he's still one card away from a complete collection, Mac helps him realize that's he's missing his own card.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Bloo frantically tries to figure out which card he's missing from his collection. After giving a quick look through his collection, Mac says Bloo. Bloo thinks Mac is just calling his name, so Mac instead brings him in front of a mirror. After vainly possing in front of it for a few seconds, he finally realizes that the card he's missing is his own.
Bloo: ...It's me. I don't have any Bloo cards!
    Max: Bingo.
Bloo: No, I already have Bingo.
  • Commonplace Rare: Bloo's own collector card starts out the most common card out of all of them, to the point the others can afford to use them as drink coasters and for other things, so Bloo initially tosses the first one he gets aside to focus on the rest of the card, So once he collects all the other cards, he realizes he forgot to keep a copy of his own, needs a Bloo card to complete his collection, but suddenly has trouble finding a single one anywhere.
  • Here We Go Again!: After apologizing to Coco, she gives him a Bloo bobblehead. However, Bloo discovers that Coco's made various other bobbleheads as well, starting up another collection craze.
  • Jerkass Realization: After Bloo finally finishes his collection with a Bloo card, he takes the time to read the description and sees that ALL of his stats are negative, centered around him being mean and hating Coco, leading up to his personality which simply reads "Big insensitive jerkface". Finally realizing that he hurt Coco's feelings with all of his antics, Bloo finally apologizes to her, and to prove he's being sincere, throws his entire collection of cards into the fireplace.
  • "Oh, Crap!" Smile: Coco gives one at the end of the episode when Bloo finds out she's made various bobbleheads of everyone at Fosters, and the Bloo bobblehead is the most common, starting his collection craze all over again.
  • Ordered Apology: Coco demands an apology from Bloo for stealing the attention from her. She gives him a pen, an apology card, and a self-addressed envelope. Bloo refuses to apologize to her and tries to collect all the Coco Cards without her help.
  • Nobody Calls Me "Chicken"!: Eduardo isn't happy with his cards initial description of "Big baby", and tries to prove he's braver to improve his standings. After pulling various stunts, he goes through "Chicken", to "Scaredy Cat", and then finally "Crazy idiot".
  • Shout-Out: This episode's title is a reference to "Cuckoo For Cocoa Puffs", the slogan for Cocoa Puffs cereal.
  • The Unapologetic: Bloo refuses to apologize to Coco and tries to collect all the Coco Cards without her help. He finally does apologize when he sees the status on his card; "Big insensitive jerkface".
