The advancement exams are close and the Polar Star residents are aware that Central is going to use the exams as a tool to get rid of them. Soma decides to show Erina some of his cooking.
This episode provides examples of:
- Call-Back: Not only Soma reminds her of the first time he cooked for her at the admission exam, but once again makes her a dish with rice and egg.
- Heel Realization: Erina realizes that because of her God Tongue, she developed a tunnel vision of how cooking was supposed to be, when there's an endless field of possibilities outside of her point of view. This reignites her love for food, and inspires her to finally take a stand against Central.
- Hope Bringer:
- Erina tells Soma that she came to idolize Jouichirou in a moment where Alice was gone, and she felt very lonely. Jouichirou's food was the first time she ever felt that cooking could be fun and warm.
- Soma's food makes her remember the feelings she had when she first time she tasted Jouichirou's food. Even if she didn't admit Soma's food was good, it inspired her to regain her confidence and guide the rebels through the advancement exams.
- Erina herself becomes the new leader of the rebellion against Central, lifting everyone's spirits in preparation to the exams.
- Implied Death Threat: Eishi has to read the announcement that the advancement exams will be different this year, and nobody will have to face expulsion if they follow Central's guides to be first rate chefs. The rebels immediately understood that Central modified the exams to get rid of them.
- Impossibly Delicious Food: Soma's Chicken Egg Tempura Don was possible by deep-frying a frozen raw egg with batter, which kept the yolk liquid despite being completely cooked in oil, and using cheap eggs gave the exact amount of flavor to compliment the sauce in the rice.
- Mood Whiplash: While Tsukasa is clearly nervous about speaking in public, he manages to be menacing when reading the speech aimed for the rebels. Only to turn away and mumble how nervous he gets on camera.
- She's Back: After having her realization, Erina regains her confidence and gathers courage to stand up to Central.
