Tropes:

• Playing with Fire: The setting establishes that spontaneous combustion suddenly became commonplace and it somehow has to do with humanity developing fire-based superpowers. Variants of this include:
  • First-Generation, better known as Infernals, are people who spontaneously combust, turning them into mindless charcoal-esq beasts that attack indiscriminately (usually). These are the things that the Fire Force were made to deal with.
  • Second-Generation are people who suddenly manifest the ability to manipulate fire.
  • Third-Generation are people who develop the ability to generate fire, usually in different, unique ways.
• Slasher Smile: Shinra is often seen with this and, given the circumstances of his family's death, many believe it is a sign of his evil nature. In reality, it is just a Character Tic he does when he's nervous.
• Token Human: Captain of Company 8 Akitaru Ōbi seems to be the only one in Company 8 without fire powers, having been trained as a soldier before joining.
