Self Inflicted Wounds, Part 1: Could'a, Would'a, Should'a

During a flight through a wormhole, Moya collides with a Pathfinder vessel and they become stuck within one another. As Crichton works with the Pathfinder crew to separate the vessels, Zhaan slowly succumbs to her sickness.

Tropes present in this episode include:

  • Armor-Piercing Question: While discussing how D'Argo can almost forgive Chiana for what she's done.
    Aeryn: Why don't you?
D'Argo: How can I trust Chiana with my heart? Can you trust Crichton, again?
  • Big "SHUT UP!": Zhaan to Jool when the latter panics over seeing the serpent.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: The characters have to choose between saving Moya or the Pathfinder ship and all its recorded data about wormholes.
  • Not Quite Dead: Discussed. Crichton suspects that Scorpius is still alive. Harvey is absolutely certain of he is still alive and hard at work researching the wormhole information taken from Crichton's brain.
  • Real After All: Zhaan had seen the serpent creature early on and told Stark about it, but she had just assumed it was an omen of impending death and nothing more. Aeryn and D'Argo are surprised to find that it's a very much alive creature slithering about the combined ships. It turns out the Pathfinders knew about the creature all along and didn't say anything under the assumption it wasn't aware of anyone else.
  • Sadistic Choice: According to Harvey, Crichton is deeply torn over having to decide between saving Moya and Pilot or gaining access to the Pathfinders' wormhole technology.
  • Skewed Priorities: Crichton is the one most willing to trust the Pathfinders, but Aeryn worries he's being blinded by his obsession with wormholes.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: After the crew makes the decision to abandon Moya, Chiana weeps in privacy. D'Argo then kneels beside her so that she won't have to go through this alone.
  • Translator Microbes: The Pathfinder crew do not initially have them, causing a lot of tension when Moya's crew first interact with them. It takes a few seconds for Crichton to realize they have no idea what he and Aeryn are saying to them.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: After Moya collides with the Pathfinders' ship, Pilot reacts by vomiting profusely onto Stark.
  • Wham Shot: John finds a still of The Three Stooges on Neeyala's recording device, indicating that her crew may know a way to Earth.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: From his own perspective, Harvey berates Crichton for even considering focusing on saving "a beast of burden" instead of embracing all the knowledge that the Pathfinders have to offer.
