When a blizzard prevents the family from going to enjoy a Christmas vacation, they instead find themselves reminiscing about how each of their children entered the world, courtesy of a photo album created by Elyse.

- Cloudcuckoolander: Dr Larry Waxman, the obstetrician who is present to deliver Mallory. Turns out he and Steven went to a camp together, and was actually referred to as Crazy Larry. Both men perform a camp chant, leading to this reactions from a labouring Elyse:Elyse: That's great. My baby's gonna be delivered by someone named Crazy Larry!…We're having a baby here, remember?
- Comically Missing the Point: Dr Waxman spends time thoroughly reassuring Steven that everything is going well and that he'll pull through it fine. Cue Elyse reminding them that she's the one actually having the baby.
- Flashback Episode: Elyse's present to Steven is a photo album, allowing them to relieve memories of each child's birth.
- Happy Rain: During the flashback to Alex's birth, Elyse and Steven are in the midst of a drought-stricken African nation. When Elyse goes into labour, it finally begins to rain and ends the drought, prompting Steven to dance outside in joy. He even lets Elyse have a sip of the rain on his sleeve as she can't leave the bed.
- Instant Birth: Just Add Labor!: Inverted: While Elyse's water is never shown breaking, it only takes a couple of contractions before she's in full-blown labor.
- Pregnancy Does Not Work That Way: The nurse informs Dr Hansen (the obstetrician who is delivering Jennifer) that Elyse is eight centimetres dilated, despite no vaginal examinations being performed to confirm this.
- Santa Clausmas: The Keatons sit by the fireplace, open presents and take a family portrait, while Jennifer delivers a short speech about how Christmas is a time for renewal and sharing moments more precious than materialistic gifts.
- Screaming Birth: Elyse, though the actual delivery of each child is not shown.
- Snowed-In: A blizzard interferes with the holiday plans, forcing the Keatons to spend Christmas at home. Ironically, they were on their way to a ski trip:Steven: Maybe we could go away for the Fourth of July instead.
- Truth in Television: It is noted that Elyse goes into labor with Jennifer four weeks early (approximately thirty-six weeks gestation), which is not uncommon for mothers who have had multiple babies.
