The Keatons return home from an evening out to find that their home has been burgled, leaving all of them uneasy and afraid. Their paranoia eventually escalates to the point where Steven decides it's time for the Keatons to acquire their first firearm.
Examples:
- Actual Pacifist: Justified given Steven and Elyse's previous involvement in the hippie movements. It takes a lot of talking before they decide to purchase a gun for self-defence. They are ultimately so horrified by the thought of harming a human being with it that they return it to the store.
- Artistic License – Gun Safety: While Elyse and Steven are cautious when handling the gun - if anything, they are comically cautious with it - they use an unlocked dresser drawer to store it in and ensure all three of the Keaton children know where it is.
- Mistaken Identity: Steven and Elyse investigate what they believe to be a second potential burglar, with Steven managing to trap them in a closet. It turns out to be Alex, who had snuck into the house from a sleepover he'd ditched.
- Post-Robbery Trauma: The main focus of the episode.
