Recap / Family Guy S 8 E 12 Extra Large Medium

Go To

Peter is convinced he's a psychic while Chris dates a girl with Down syndrome who, despite her disability, turns out to be pushy and abusive.

Examples:

  • And Call Him "George": As Stewie puts it, Ellen's hugs are "tighter than a vice, and they go on for an hour." In fact, when she hugs Stewie, he remarks "I'm guessing this one owned a bunny, but not anymore."
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Ellen, the girl with Down syndrome, at first seems nice when Chris meets her. However, when Chris goes out with her and takes her home, she shows her true colors.
  • Bratty Food Demand: When Chris and Ellen get back to her house, Ellen demands he make her an ice cream sundae. So when Chris returns with an ice cream sundae, she complains that he put chocolate sauce on it, as she never specified she wanted chocolate sauce on it (even though she also never specified that she didn't).
  • Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick: The song "Down Syndrome Girl" has many of these.
  • Disability as an Excuse for Jerkassery: Once Chris goes out with Ellen, she turns out to be a pushy and mean-spirited person who ends up treating him pretty awfully. Finally fed up with the abuse, Chris comments that he thought people with learning disorders were different and nicer than other people, but now realizes that they can be just as mean and selfish as everybody else, and they break up.
  • Girl of the Week: Ellen, for Chris.
  • Makeover Montage: The first half of "Down Syndrome Girl" has Stewie getting Chris ready for his date: bathing him, blow-drying his hair, dressing him in nice clothes, putting a rose in his lapel, and spraying him with cologne to cover up his awful smell.
  • Lifesaving Misfortune: Bruce's fight with Jeffrey (over a turkey burger) leads him to find Chris and Stewie, saving both of their lives.
  • Mistaken for Superpowered: Peter is convinced that he has psychic powers after he manages to guess incredibly mundane things that could apply to almost anyone. His fame soon grows until he is hired by the police to deduce the location of a bomb. When he fails and it explodes, he nonchalantly admits that he's not psychic after all.
  • Phony Psychic: Peter claims to be psychic after making vague guesses to things that turn out to be correct. He admits that he's not really psychic at the end of the episode (after the guy he was trying to save had already died).
  • Screaming at Squick: While he and Meg are sharing a bath, Stewie screams and runs away when the latter queefs in the tub.
  • Serious Business: Jeffrey seems pretty pissed with Bruce over that turkey burger.
  • Significant Green-Eyed Redhead: Ellen, the girl Chris dates in this episode, has red hair, and while Family Guy's art style doesn't give its characters visible irises, one of the lyrics in "Down's Syndrome Girl" implies she has green eyes ("Her eyes are emerald portals/To a secret land of love..."). And, of course, she's clearly a very important character in this episode.
  • Underwater Fart Gag: When Lois demands everyone in the household have a "bath buddy" so no one ends up drowning, Meg and Stewie have to bathe together. Stewie farts in the tub, causing both him and Meg to giggle, and Meg starts farting too. Then Meg queefs in the tub, causing Stewie to run out of the tub, disgusted.
  • Very Special Episode: The controversial episode tackles dating someone with a disability and Down's Syndrome.
  • Who's on First?: When Joe calls on Peter to help find a man with a bomb, Peter asks what his name is. Joe replies that his name is Melvin Hu, which, of course, leads to Peter asking "Who?"
