The Griffins decide to get another dog after Brian gets injured from Peter mimicking a stunt from Jackass.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Berserk Button: After finding out that New Brian humped Rupert for two hours, Stewie responds by chopping him to pieces and placing his remains into a garbage bag off-screen.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: New Brian seemed to be a perfect replacement until he tells Stewie what he did to Rupert; the dog humped Stewie's teddy bear and rubs salt in the wound by saying that every time Stewie holds Rupert, the bear will think of New Brian instead (complete with a smug grin).
  • Body Horror: After Peter rides the shopping cart off the roof, he ends up with his neck and head twisted upside down.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: New Brian does a variation of Brian's Catchphrase, "Hey, gang! Whose leg do you have to hump to get a hug around here?"
  • Bowdlerization: The following scenes were edited/cut between the TV version and the DVD version:
    • Quagmire slathering honey on his penis as part of the "Bee Bush" Jackass stunt: On the DVD version, you can see the outline of his penis more clearly, while on TV, you can't. Also, there are more bees around his crotch in the TV version than in the DVD version.
    • Cleveland shouting, "What the fuck?!" when Peter shaves a piece of his hair off has "fuck" bleeped out.
    • New Brian offering Old Brian a bag of weed: on TV, New Brian refers to the bag of weed as "some of this." On DVD, he actually refers to it as a bag of weed.
    • The scene of Brian trying to bond with Chris (who is sitting on his bed), only to learn that Chris has been masturbating the whole time Brian's been talking was cut entirely on TV but can be seen on DVD.
  • The Coroner Doth Protest Too Much: New Brian tells Stewie what he did to Rupert. The next scene shows Peter reading the suicide note explaining how the dog chopped himself into pieces and placed himself in the garbage.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Peter ends up hugging a friendly Bernie the Hamster - after Brian says it's okay.
  • Did Not Think This Through: Quagmire did not consider how he would get the bees off when done with the "Bee Bush" stunt.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: New Brian's wording when he talks about humping Rupert ("he just sat there and took it.") coupled with what Stewie does shortly after killing him (giving Rupert a Shower of Angst and tearfully assuring him that he doesn't blame him nor do they need to discuss it if he's not ready) is clearly meant to invoke the idea that New Brian raped Rupert.
  • Don't Try This at Home: Peter is not deterred from copying the stunts from Jackass.
Peter: Hey. You know what. We should try some of that stuff. Here, at home.
Cleveland: I don't know, Peter. That skull and crossbones warning before the show is pretty clear about not doing that.
Peter: Cleveland, shut up. I saw something on TV that I want to imitate.
  • Heh Heh, You Said "X": Peter laughs when Brian says that he's thought long and hard about his decision. He fails to react the same way when Lois says that she hopes Brian moving won't be a boner.
  • Historical Hilarity: A Cutaway Gag shows Abraham Lincoln interacting with his neighbor.
  • Meaningful Name: Stewie regrets having a conversation with Buzz Killington.
  • Mugging the Monster: New Brian had no idea who he was messing with when he bragged about what he did to Rupert. One scene cut later, Stewie is dragging a bloody garbage bag across the driveway.
  • Scary Stinging Swarm: Quagmire covers his genitals with bees. Peter then makes it worse for him by yelling "I hate you, bees!" at them over and over.
  • Shout-Out: Peter's Jackass stunt involves dressing up like Ralph Hinkley from The Greatest American Hero and singing that show's theme song (until he crashes into a tree).
  • Shower of Angst: Stewie gives Rupert one after killing New Brian, all while telling him he doesn't blame him for what New Brian did.
  • Temporary Scrappy: After Peter starts worrying about Brian getting old, he goes out and gets the family another dog known only as "New Brian." Guess who feels jealous of him? Brian and Stewie both dislike New Brian, but all the other characters think he's great. Near the end of the episode, New Brian admits to Stewie that he violated Stewie's teddy bear (Rupert). The next scene has Stewie giving Peter, Lois, and the other characters a quite suspicious story about how New Brian committed suicide, then cut himself up, bagged the pieces, and put the bag in the trash outside.
  • Tranquil Fury: Stewie's reaction to what New Brian said about Rupert. He stays really calm but the next shot shows him carrying a large trash bag leaking blood.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Peter recreates dangerous stunts from Jackass, despite explicitly being warned not to (including riding a shopping cart off the roof of his house and launching himself off a ramp into a tree).
  • Unexpected Character: In-Universe.
Bernie: Hey, everybody! I'm Bernie the Hamster! Would you like to be my friend?
