Go To

Peter launches a crusade against illegal immigrants until he discovers that he actually is one thanks to his mom having him while in Mexico (following her affair with Peter's drunken, Irish dad).

Examples:

  • Artistic License – Law: The episode should be mostly a non-issue. Because Peter is the son of an American citizen (his mother), he is a naturalized citizen regardless of where he was born. The lack of a birth certificate could be a bit of a legal hassle, but he wouldn't be considered an illegal immigrant. Even if he was, Peter is old enough to have been around for the amnesty granted by the Reagan administration, so he should have had no problem applying for citizenship if it was still needed.
  • Black Comedy: Peter's birth during the abortion is all Played for Laughs as he falls out of his mother during the attempted procedure, one man comes by and chops off his umbilical cord with garden shears and then another man blows it away (along with some leaves) with a leaf blower.
  • Fractured Fairy Tale: One Cutaway Gag has Peter's cousin as one of the three little pigs, who talks the wolf out of blowing his house down because "[he] just made stool in there".
  • Good Girls Avoid Abortion: Because she was impregnated by Mickey McFinnegan, Thelma tried to abort Peter to prevent Francis from finding out that she's pregnant. However, her attempt failed as Peter came out of her during the attempted abortion.
  • The Help Helping Themselves: Discussed.
Peter: Lois, immigrants don't take handouts. They just take one DVD a month from the house they're cleaning until they have a respectable collection.
  • Idiot Ball: Angela, Peter’s boss, ends up concurring with him about his anti-immigration views, even though she saw first hand how incredibly nonsensical Peter can be.
  • Mood Whiplash: When Peter finds out he was born in Mexico, the intense scene transitions to a more comedic scene where Peter, in a purple background, jokes about his predicament and sings a little tune.
  • Original Position Fallacy: Peter is fired when he can't provide a birth certificate to demonstrate his citizenship of the USA. This comes about because of a policy against employing illegal immigrant workers which Peter himself encouraged the company to implement.
  • Patriotic Fervor: Peter spends the first part of the episode displaying an exaggerated version of this, until he discovers he was actually born in Mexico.
  • Prison Rape: After Patrick Swayze gets arrested for dating an underage girl, he ends up in prison. While in prison in bed, he quickly turns around after seeing his room mate. After he does, the room mate starts to lick his ear.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: Peter takes a grudge against illegal immigrants, only to be told he is one himself.
  • Very Special Episode: The episode tackles illegal documentation and immigration.
  • You Are What You Hate: Peter hates illegal immigrants for eating all the donuts and has them all fired and removed, so imagine his surprise when he turns out to be one too.
