Recap / Family Guy S 20 E 20 The Jersey Bore

Go To

Peter and the guys go with Preston to Atlantic City for a business conference. Stewie helps prepare Chris for his role in Adam West High's rendition of "Romeo and Juliet".

Tropes:

  • Catfishing: Stewie pretends to be a middle-aged woman on Tinder to trick Principal Shepherd into giving Chris the part. Shephard outright asks if Stewie is a baby, implying that Shepherd's had this happen to him before.
  • Cure Your Gays: Chris gets the opportunity to audition for Romeo because the previous Romeo's parents withdrew him for "emergency conversion therapy."
  • Disposable Sex Worker: Played for Laughs. A man randomly walks into Peter's room and announces the hooker in his room was already dead when he found her.
  • Fun with Acronyms: Preston chooses Peter for the trip, he uses a system know as the "Determining Employee Advancement, Duties, Work Engagement, Intelligence, Gains, Hourly Test", or for short, DEADWEIGHT.
  • I Do Not Like Green Eggs and Ham: When Peter points out that Preston has never even tasted the beer the brewery sells, he takes a sip, fireworks go off in his head, and he appears to have an out-of-body experience. Subverted later on, Preston reveals he didn't like it.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: After Preston calls Peter useless to the brewery, Peter fires back:
Peter: Oh, yeah? Well, you'll never amount to anything at life! You don't know how to make friends or have fun! You've never even tasted the beer you sell. At least I know why it's special!
  • Sadist Teacher: Chris notes that the bullying at Adam West High has gotten so bad that the staff are now bullying the kids.
  • Series Continuity Error: Chris complains that Stewie cost him the chance to "finally" kiss a beautiful girl. Even if you ignore previous episodes where Chris kisses a girl, he had a girlfriend earlier in the season.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Chris's high school play is a rendition of Romeo and Juliet.
    • While Peter and his boss go on a business trip, the rest of the employees watch Ratatouille.
  • Suicide as Comedy: The hotel Peter stays out has pre-written suicide notes, where you simply pick one and sign your name.
  • You Are Fat: Preston tells Peter that he brought him along for the business trip so he can project the presentation onto Peter's back, due to Peter's "width". Peter finds it humiliating.
