Recap / Family Guy S 18 E 2 Bri Da

Go To

Peter and his friends are sick of forgetting the lucrative business ideas they come up with while drinking, so they strap on Joe's police body cams to record their every move; Quagmire tries to come to terms with an unexpected family development.

The episode contains examples of:

  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: At the end, Quagmire makes Ida choose between him and Brian.
    Ida: I choose Brian...
    Brian: Yes!
    Ida: ...To talk to first.
  • Berserk Button: After Brian compares the science museum they're touring to Night at the Museum, Quagmire becomes disgusted that Brian would make a reference to his favorite movie when Brian hasn't even seen the film to even know how the museum they're in is even similar to the one in the movie.
  • Brick Joke: Joe is revealed to sneeze like the former Vermont governor Howard Dean in a cutaway. During the scene where he, Cleveland, and Quagmire are upset at Lois for pointing out their flaws, he sneezes in a Howard Dean-like manner again.
  • Character Development:
    • For both Brian and Quagmire. Brian is genuinely happy dating Ida, even if he tries to hide their relationship at first. Quagmire is more annoyed at Brian's attitude and Ida spending more time with Brian than him (when it used to be just the two of them) than anything else. Compare this to what happened the last time Brian slept with Ida (Brian threw up for 30 seconds and Quagmire beat him half to death).
    • To a lesser extent, for the rest of the family. They are perfectly fine with Brian dating Ida, whereas Peter and Lois relentlessly mocked Brian for sleeping with Ida back in "Quagmire's Dad".
  • Compressed Vice: Played for Laughs; Lois reveals some things wrong with Peter’s friends: Joe’s baby teeth never fell out and he is incapable of eating corn and Quagmire’s habit of incorrectly calling the series Seinfeld ‘Steinfeld’. Cleveland’s tendency of saying ‘everybody’ in an unusual manner can be forgiven since he has a southern drawl that affects his speech pattern. It's also revealed that Joe sneezes like Howard Dean, which has never been mentioned before or since.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Brian worries how his family would react to finding out he is now dating Ida, which they turn out to be supportive of. But did not think about how Quagmire would react, especially given how Quagmire reacted last time.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Joe and Cleveland immediately buy Peter’s excuse that he’s still at work despite coming after they’ve already seen that the Griffins are having dinner with Quagmire and Ida, and with Peter in clear view in the window behind them.
  • Karma Houdini: Quagmire ruins Brian’s relationship with Ida by using the “it’s him or me” ultimatum on Ida to force her to break up with Brian and Quagmire received no comeuppance for this.
  • Kids Versus Adults: During a parent vs. child football game, Quagmire is dismayed when he is forced to join the kids team despite being older than any of the adults on the parent team.
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: Brian makes a reference to Night at the Museum, only for Quagmire to get him to admit that he's never seen the movie.
  • Parent with New Paramour: The plot of the episode centers with Quagmire dealing with his transgendered father dating Brian.
  • Oh, Crap!: Quagmire quickly has this reaction when he realises he had sex whilst wearing a body cam.
  • Older Than They Look: Quagmire is forced to play a fathers vs. kids (mostly sons) football game in the kids' team due to Brian being his going-to-be stepfather. Reluctant but accepting the decision, Quagmire says "Okay, as the only adult in a team full of children...", but this is actually incorrect because Chris and Cleveland Jr. are the only children in the kids' team, while Meg and Kevin Swanson, who are also on the team, are respectively 18 and 25. There's also a reference to a past episode in which the real age of Quagmire was revealed. In fact, while complaining of the fact that he ended up in the kids' team, he yells, "I'm older than the adults! I'm older than all of you!". This references when Quagmire revealed to be 61 and to look much younger, thanks to carrots. So how old is Ida? Although he doesn't specify an age here, he had previously claimed to be 61 in "FOX-y Lady", although the episodes "A Fistful of Meg" and "Trans-Fat" seem to contradict this.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Quagmire lays into Brian for being a Know-Nothing Know-It-All.
Brian: See? It’s not so bad. It’s like Night at the Museum in here.
    Quagmire: How?
Brian: Well, you know, like, the guys are gonna come to life.
    Quagmire: Like who?
Brian: Umm, the guys, you know, when it’s... when it’s nighttime.
Quagmire: You didn’t see the movie, did you?
    Brian: No.
Quagmire: Why did you bring up a reference to something you know nothing about?
Brian: I, uh, it just... it reminded me of...
Quagmire: Brian, don’t bring up a reference to someone whose favorite movie it is because you’ll just embarrass yourself. That was a natural history museum; this is a science museum. What you think that tidal chart is gonna come to life? You think that moon rock is gonna walk across this room and riff brilliantly like Robin Williams playing Teddy Roosevelt? God rest both their souls. Be very, very careful treading around Night at the Museum.
  • What Did I Do Last Night?: Peter, Joe, Cleveland, and Quagmire decide to record themselves when they go out and drink so they won't forget any ideas they come up with while drunk.
  • With Friends Like These...: Played for Laughs; Peter, Cleveland, and Quagmire put up billboards making fun of Joe (including one saying that he sneezes like Howard Dean).
