Go To

When a drunken Brian destroys Rupert, his friendship with Stewie may be completely damaged. Meanwhile, Peter refuses to wash his hand after meeting Boo Berry.

Tropes:

  • Armor-Piercing Question: Stewie asks why Brian's so jealous of Rupert, who he keeps insisting isn't real. Brian admits that's a very good question.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Stewie has every right to be mad at Brian for ripping Rupert to shreds but Brian is correct by saying that he shouldn't treat Rupert as if he was an actual character.
  • Character Death: For a given definition of character. The original Rupert is destroyed.
  • Due to the Dead: Stewie wants to climb a mountain and scatter Rupert's ashes.
  • Happily Married: Chris openly isn't sure if all the crazy things Peter and Lois do indicates a rock solid marriage or one that's falling apart. Meg replies that it's a little of both.
  • Harmful to Minors: Parodied. Stewie walking in on the aftermath of what Brian did to Rupert is played like discovering a murder victim.
  • Hidden Depths: The reason Stewie is so attached to Rupert is because he was a friend who would never leave him, whereas Brian will die in only a few years.
  • Hypocrite: When Brian keeps on saying Rupert is just a toy but keeps referring to it as a "he" like if he was a real person.
  • Jerkass: A more sympathetic example, but both Stewie and Brian are subjects to this. Yes, Brian did have his reasons, but there is no excuse to rip apart his best friend’s teddy bear. One can even argue that Brian knew that “killing” Rupert would break Stewie’s heart. But while this did happen, Stewie takes Rupert’s “murder” a bit too far when he says that Brian is not his best friend, hurting the dog emotionally in the process. Stewie also physically attacks Brian after he finds out he ripped apart Rupert on purpose.
  • Kick the Dog: Brian is genuinely hurt when Stewie refers to Rupert, not him, as his best friend.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Joe asks if it's weird he, Quagmire, and Cleveland have Lois in a group text but not Peter. Quagmire just thinks it's weird that Joe's emoji can walk.
  • Lilliputians: The bacteria on Peter's hand evolve into tiny humanoids and create a civilization.
  • Makes Us Even: Brian offers to let Stewie destroy his prized tennis ball in order to make them this. Stewie is offended by Rupert being compared to a chewed up tennis ball.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Brian when he gives a eulogy to Rupert and realized how much he means to Stewie.
  • Nausea Dissonance: Peter refuses to wash the hand that Boo Berry shook, creating all kinds of gunk and even sentient bacteria. He thinks it's cool; everyone else is disgusted.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Stewie gives this to Brian a lot when Brian destroyed Rupert. Stewie even almost killed Brian when he revealed that he destroyed Rupert on purpose.
  • Ping Pong Naïveté: Brian lampshades how Stewie is exceptionally intelligent for a baby, yet thinks a stuffed animal is real.
  • Replacement Goldfish: After giving the original Rupert a proper send-off, Brian secretly buys Stewie a new Rupert as a gift to him.
  • Self-Deprecation: Meg describes the folks' marriage as weird but strong, invoking Danny Trejo. Trejo appears in a live-action cutaway to say thanks for the compliment.
  • Skyward Scream: Stewie screams Rupert's name after discovering the remains.
  • Status Quo Is God: Played with. Brian manages to find a replacement Rupert at a toy store. So the "original" Rupert is gone forever, but Stewie can't tell the difference.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: Peter says he's Boo Berry's biggest fan. Boo Berry asks if he's the guy that's been threatening him on Facebook. Peter insists he's not doing that, but he stresses "Not you."
  • This Is Reality: While going up the mountain, Stewie told Brian that Rupert was never going to leave him. Brian tries to comfort him saying he won’t leave him either, but Stewie pointed out that Brian is a middle aged dog and will die soon.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Stewie calls out Brian several times.
    • First, he gets angry at Brian for tearing Rupert to shreds and declares that they're not friends anymore.
    • Then when he pointed out if Brian doesn’t believe Rupert was real, then why Brian is jealous of him and why it’s bothering Brian on how much it upset Stewie.
    • Finally, when Brian offers to let Stewie destroy his tennis ball as revenge, the latter is outraged by the comparison.
Stewie: You're comparing [Rupert] to a tennis ball?!
  • Would Hurt a Child: Brian ends up defending himself during one of Stewie's beatdowns. He's horrified when he ends up injuring Stewie's ankle.
