Peter helps Joe solve cases, but he gets irritated when Joe takes all the credit for himself. Meanwhile, Brian and Chris look after Stewie after he gets a concussion playing football.

- At the beginning of the episode has Chris asking Lois to go bare-hand raisins at the supermarket, and she tells him to say "oopsie-poopsie" if he gets caught. Later, Chris grabs Tyler's mom's breast and when she snaps at him, he says "oopsie-poopsie".
- Midway through the episode, Joe stares at a photo of a kidnapped girl, calling it the one case he never solved. At the end, the girl shows up and reveals she's been trapped in a sex dungeon for decades.
- Cops Need the Vigilante: This trope played straight with Peter helping Joe. In Real Life, what Peter and Joe are doing is EXTREMELY illegal, and at worst would lead to Joe leaving the police in disgrace and both of them getting arrested, and at best would leave all evidence inadmissible, rendering all the work moot. It IS slightly lampshaded with Joe claiming Peter has violated a TON of procedure and regulations, but that never becomes relevant to the plot.
- The Cameo: The Simpsons make an appearance during the montage.
- Forgot Flanders Could Do That: The main plot of the episode has Joe become a competent cop again after years of being portrayed as a helpless sad sack.
- Full-Body Disguise: Peter and Joe do this during the crime busting montage, even masquerading as each other and one point. Later, when Peter calls out Joe for taking all the credit, it's revealed to be Quagmire disguised as Peter.
- Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The title is a reference to Cop and a Half.
- Shout-Out: The scene where Peter accidentally pushes Joe's wheelchair down the baseball stadium steps is taken from The Naked Gun. Footage from the film's scene is shown, except with Joe's head on Nordberg's body, and Peter's head on Frank's body.
- Worst Aid: When Stewie gets a concussion, Chris tries to make it better by hitting Stewie over the head with a book. Unsurprisingly, it only makes the concussion worse.
