Recap / Family Guy S 14 E 17 Take A Letter

Go To

After the family transfers Stewie to a fancy private preschool, Lois goes job-hunting to help pay for Stewie's tuition—Cleveland gets her a job at the local post office (which is where he currently works). While at her job, Lois discovers a letter that Peter had written to an old girlfriend of his right before they got married—after she delivers the letter and explains who she is to Peter's ex-girlfriend, said ex tries breaking up Peter and Lois.

Meanwhile, at his new school, Stewie befriend a rich kid named Chadley and enlists Brian to help impress him and the rest of his new classmates.

Examples:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Gretchen is still smitten with Peter after all those years apart, despite him now being married.
  • Big Bad: Gretchen Mercer, Peter's ex, who drives the conflict between him and Lois.
  • Bowdlerization: On the part where Lois and Peter try to have sex through the P.O. boxes, the TV version has Peter clothed (at least from the waist-up) and mashed against the P.O. boxes. On the DVD version, Peter is naked and spread-eagled against the P.O. boxes.
  • Hypocrite: Brian expresses annoyance over an arrogant rich guy bragging about a minor thing—at this point in the series, Brian's well-known for his arrogance.
  • Liar Revealed: Stewie's lie of being wealthy is exposed at the end of the episode, when the house he claims is his is revealed to belong to a couple who have just come back from a vacation.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Initially, Peter is happy to see his ex-girlfriend after 20 years, but he gets scared when Gretchen reveals she showed up in response to the letter he sent to her about having doubts about marrying Lois and wanting to marry her instead.
    • Later in the episode, Meg uncovers Gretchen’s plot to kill Lois, and Peter panics before running out of the house to stop her.
  • Pet the Dog: When Meg uncovers Gretchen’s plot to kill Lois in order to be with Peter, Peter goes to stop her before returning briefly to pet Meg, calling her a ‘good dog’. This is probably one of the rarest times Peter showed Meg any respect (if you can ignore Peter calling Meg a "dog").
  • You Are Fat: While Cleveland is working his job as a postman, an Amazon drone comes along and calls his son fat.
