Recap / Family Guy S 13 E 12 Stewie Is Enceinte

Go To

To trap Brian into spending more time with him, Stewie takes Brian's DNA and impregnates himself. Meanwhile, Peter and his buddies try to create the next viral video sensation.

This episode is notable for being the last episode of Family Guy to air on [adult swim], before WarnerMedia lost the rights to the first fifteen seasons of the series to Disney-owned channels FX, FXX and Freeform in September 2021.

Tropes seen in this episode:

  • Adults Are Useless: Basically every adult in this episode (peculiarly the Griffin household) are oblivious to the whole "Stewie-and-Brian-pregnancy" situation. Even Lampshaded by Peter's whole utter lack of interest on the latter regarding Cleveland's concern.
Cleveland: Hey, I went by your house the other day. Is your baby pregnant?
  • Babies Make Everything Better: And Stewie hoped he would restore his relationship with Brian to the way it was by them both becoming parents. Naturally this is deconstructed.
  • The Baby Trap: Stewie pulls this on Brian in order to try to save their friendship.
  • Body Horror: What happens to Stewie when he gets pregnant and when he gives birth.
  • Cuckold: Stewie ordering Rupert to watch him as the machine makes him pregnant is played off as this.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: One of Stewie and Brian's hybrid babies met an gruesome death when he didn't hear Joe's lawnmower coming right at him (he was deaf).
  • Dwindling Party: Brian and Stewie have 7 human-dog hybrid babies and by the episode's end, after a series of unfortunate events, are down to 4 surviving babies.
  • End of an Age: As noted above, this was the final episode of Family Guy to air on [adult swim], ending a twenty-year legacy of reruns on the Cartoon Network block that strongly played a role in the series’ revival. After the episode concluded, a bump was aired which featured multiple Adult Swim characters waving goodbye to the Griffins.
  • Generation Xerox: Stewie points out humorously to Brian that one of their hybrid babies, Finn, looks a lot like Brian (only with cream colored fur and thin hairs on his head like his other father Stewie).
  • Good Girls Avoid Abortion: Gender-swapped with Stewie, who becomes pregnant with his and Brian's baby and refuses to get an abortion when Brian pressures him to.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: We don't get to see what's happening as Stewie gives birth to the hybrids, but hearing both Brian and Stewie loudly complain along with the beige colored afterbirth fluid splattered across Brian's car windows, paints a rather graphic (and hilarious) mental picture for the audience.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Stewie and Brian's offspring.
  • Homosexual Reproduction: Uh, yeah ... since both Brian and Stewie are male. Made even more bizarre by the fact that Stewie is a human being and Brian is a dog. (The end results are even more bizarre human-dog hybrids that have multiple genetic and health deformities.) Though Brian has at least one healthy human hybrid son (Dylan, from "The Former Life of Brian" and "Brian's A Bad Father")
  • Infant Pregnancy: Remember, Stewie is 1 1/2 years old... and a boy. The odds of that actually happening in the real world are beyond light years to the light Earth power... and for a girl Stewie's age to survive a pregnancy are only slightly better. note
  • Mister Seahorse: Stewie, obviously, is a male who gets pregnant.
  • No Name Given: Only threenote  of Brian and Stewie's seven babies are given names. The others are unknownnote  .
  • Parental Neglect: In the park, Brian and Stewie are so busy having an argument that they didn't see one of their hybrid offspring fall into the pond and drown.
  • Poor Communication Kills: As we find out, towards the end, the entire A-plot and the situation between Stewie and Brian could have been avoided if the two just talked about how they feel.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: Brian pressuring Stewie to get an abortion could very well been of self-interest to not wanting anymore kids. The fact remains, however, with Stewie being an infant whose body was carrying offspring (definitely would not be survived in real life). Stewie also being male means that naturally he doesn't have a vagina which comes to backfire when he gives birth. Above all, given to their hybrid offspring came out mostly genetically deformed and defective, it might have been the better option.
  • Shout-Out:
    • I Love Lucy: The classic episode "Lucy is Enceinte", where Lucy reveals she is pregnant and surprises Ricky with the news, inspired the title of this episode.
    • The scene with the dancing frog and the monkeys lingering closer is reference to the movie The Accused.
    • Stewie names two of the babies Jack and Rose.
  • Too Dumb to Live:
    • Dr. Hartman, the Griffin family doctor who does a routine checkup on Stewie through his bizarre pregnancy and finds nothing wrong with him, despite the obvious that his patient is a one year old male baby having a baby.
    • Stewie himself for designing a temporary uterus, but not a vagina, apparently never once considering how the babies are going to come out.
  • Wacky Cravings: Before his water breaks, Stewie mentions craving burgers and mint chip ice cream, specifying that he doesn't want any other flavor of ice cream.
