Recap / Family Guy S 10 E 14 Be Careful What You Fish For

Go To

Peter makes friends with a dolphin (voiced by Ricky Gervais), while Brian dates Stewie's pretty, yet grossly negligent preschool teacher.

Tropes:

  • Adults Are Useless: Nobody steps in to deal with the child abuse and neglect happening at Stewie's preschool. Brian steps in, only to become Distracted by the Sexy.
  • Brick Joke: Stewie mentions that he can hear someone showering at the preschool. Later, when Brian goes out with Miss Emily, Miss Emily tells her boyfriend that she's leaving and he comes out in a towel and says he's going to take more showers while she's gone.
  • Daycare Nightmare: Stewie's daycare is poorly run, the children are improperly fed and left alone, and Miss Emily neglects and generally treats them terribly.
  • Free-Range Children: Brian claims at one point that the neglected children are learning independence. Stewie retorts that independence at one-year-old means death.
  • Funny Background Event: One of Peter's plans to reunite Billy with his wife is to have Joe pose as King Neptune and command them to get back together. Near the end of the episode, as the two of them are discussing their problems together, Joe (still dressed as Neptune) sinks to the ocean floor in the background.
  • Hypocrite: Brian getting Stewie's preschool teacher arrested and her preschool shut down, not because of how grossly negligent she is, but because she's dating someone else and Brian lecturing her on how negligent she is (when Brian wasn't any better in being concerned for Stewie's safety).
  • Jerkass: Brian, who lets Emily repeatedly neglect Stewie and the other children in the preschool due to her being attractive. Then he only blows the whistle on her once he learns she has a boyfriend.
  • Prison Rape: After Miss Emily is arrested for her child abuse, Stewie jokes that Emily will become "major les chow".
  • Shout-Out: When Peter wants to watch Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, Billy makes everyone watch The Cove instead.
  • The Thing That Would Not Leave: Billy ends up being this for the Griffins due to his wife throwing him out.
  • Worst Aid: Stewie comes home with a dislocated arm after speaking up to Emily. To keep this from ruining his chances with her, Brian prevents Stewie from telling Lois while he pops in back in place.
