- Defeating the Undefeatable: After all the battle's where he was a borderline Invincible Villain, Vergil is soundly defeated by the combined efforts of his brother and Natsu.
- Determinator: One of Fairy Tail's most impressive traits, not backing down even from Vergil after being exhausted from all the previous battles. Natsu is the most prominent example, eat demonic fire and powering through the toxic effects to unlock Dragon Force in order to fight Devil Trigger Vergil on equal footing.
- Destructive Saviour: Natsu assists Dante against Vergil, by knocking the latter throughout the castle and wrecking it in the process. Lampshaded by the watching members of Fairy Tail, and Natsu himself when he warns Wendy, Lady, Happy, and Carla to get out before the place collapses.
- Didn't See That Coming: Both Sons of Sparda are caught off guard when Natsu not only survives the Hellfire, but even accesses Dragon Force with it. It also marks a turning point in the fight, as Vergil is got caught off guard for the first time in the story.

- It's All My Fault: How Wendy feels about Natsu's injury from Vergil, given he received it by taking a slash meant for her. Thankfully, Natsu and the others reassure her otherwise.
- It's Personal: Natsu's Punctuated Pounding of Vergil makes it clear that the guy not only hurting his own brother, but all of Natsu's True Companions has made the enmity very personal with the Dragon Slayer.
- Laser-Guided Karma: After spending the whole arc attacking Fairy Tail and mocking their belief in The Power of Friendship, Vergil finds himself on the losing end of a fight for the first time thanks to Dante and Natsu's excellent teamwork.
- Lightning Bruiser: The Devil Triggers of the Sons of Sparda and Natsu's Dragon Force boost their toughness, power, and speed, putting them into this category even compared to their already formidable baselines.
- Mythology Gag: When Natsu unlocks Dragon Force, his speech is based on the Fairy Tail episode Titania Falls.
- No-Sell: Fairy Tail try to help Dante on Vergil, but he easily shrugs off their combined attack. Justified given Vergil's own power and them being exhausted from the previous fights.

- This Cannot Be!: Vergil's reaction when Dante and Natsu's Super Mode's are able to push his own back.
- Underestimating Badassery: For the entire arc, Vergil was extremely confident in his abilities against Fairy Tail, thanks easily defeating many of them in combat. This comes back to bite him when he dismisses Natsu eating demonic fire as his greatest act of stupidity, expecting to make him sick. He is utterly shocked when not only does Natsu survive, but even unlocks Dragon Force and proceeds to put the elder Son of Sparda on the losing end of a fight for the first time.
- Unstoppable Rage: Downplayed with Natsu, but upon entering Dragon Force he starts unleashing all his rage at Vergil for everything the man has done to his guild.
